Yesterday in the mail I recieved my Snow Goer Magazine and yes Ski Doo 600 was named sled of the year. Kinda looks like a stealth airplane? lol

The Nytro was in the top 10.

Nytro top 10...?...at least #2 or #3(but then again I can't compare)...I've been reading articles that have been relating the Nytro to a Doo and claiming the Nytro has "an insane about of torque from the get go" etc...
I totally understand Doo...but much like the phazer...the nytro is quite a step forward
in engineering...just thought it'd place a little higher I guess...

I agree - there was no way Yamaha was going to win for a third year in a row - the
Doo is very inovative and I think that is clearly what they look at - the Apex and the Phazer were bigger advancements than the Nytro is - don't get me wrong, I think the Nytro is an awesome sled - just not as big of a step forward for Yamaha as the Apex and the Phazer was - just my 2 cents!!

For what Ski-doo has done for the Industry by making the new rev XP = Awesome !
If they hadn't-the FX Nytro would've been a shoe in for a "snowmobile of the year" Hat-trick (three in a row). For a guy like me who switched to a ski-doo for the CHASSIS alone - the FX nytro is the ONLY new yamaha I am considering to buy -need some time on one first.
With the new rev XP - it makes polaris(who's sleds are getting pretty good) to re-think and try and figure out how to drop another 50 lbs too !!!
And Arctic cat -I would hate to be a Cat dealer right now. They are about to release a trick new "ultra-light 600cc racer" And EVERYONE will want this sled- and NOT the current Very heavy-very slow F-series -why did they make this pig of a fusion wana-be again? I hope that the guy that OK'd the new F-series is NOT in charge of future sled design for arctic cat.
(I hate to see a American company struggle).
Thats my opinion - anyway......

.....I disagree, I think the Nytro is a bigger step forward than the Apex and Phazer. The Apex chassis isn't really that much different than the RX-1 chassis from the way it looks to me....

The Apex was built on a whole new chassis and the Phazer was a whole new sled - to me, the Nytro is a cross between the two - it has the best of both designs - I would not be surprised if the Apex was gone in a couple of years and everything will be Nytro or Phazer design - just my 2 cents!!

I read the article about the New Doo and honestly 50lb lighter is a great direction for all manufactures. The use of different parts to make the sled lighter and stronger is great.

The Nytro is a great sled that will just keep getting better and setting the bars higher.

Wasn't the Apex a "modified" version of the current Rx-1 deltabox chassis ??? (I think they called it the deltaboxII)It was not even close to the "newness" of the new phazer - and the new Fx nytro is way different than the phazer - Did you see how easy (or easier) to change a track on the nytro ?? Way cool.
BUT, to get back to the sled of the year stuff - I think the Fx nytro was at the top of the list- But you just can't deny ski-doo's effort on dropping pounds on an already light sled. It will make all the other sled companies (yamaha included) strive to make lighter/better performing/easier handling....etc. Better for EVERYONE !!!

Its hard to make a 4 stroke lighter...unless newer advanced type metal parts, plastics or carbon fibres are used..but the customer pays for that aswell...DA-DING$$$...I think Yamaha will have a few more tricks up their sleeves to loose weight..but so will the other manufacturers in the long run...
However...keeping the lower center of gravity...suspension upgrades power etc I'm sure will bring more costumers to the Blue side...
As for SOTY...with the Nytro being on sooo many covers...I thought at least they'd say "..it was a hard desicion between the two..but Skidoo nudged Yamaha out of the spot"...Oh well...I still wanna test both of em out(grin)

look at the bikes... new 4 stroke bikes are pretty light and they used to all be 2 strokes. I think it will go the way the bikes all did. just a matter of time. and I bet people were fighting change with the bikes too :) Eric

i have been riding blue for a long time was going to buy nitro but for 7600.00 and 400lbs its a no brainer!!!!!! still gonna keep the viper & sx's in case ski poo blows up

I looked at what they lightened up though and I'm skeptical:

Lightweight steering system (Doesn't say material)
Lightweight front end (doesn't say what material it was made of)
Chassis saved 14 lbs
Lightweight seat (smaller and less foam)
Reduced a ply in track for 6 lbs savings (uhhh I'll wait and see how this works)

At first I thought this was amazing but I also thought it all came from the chassis. You would have a hard time convincing me that a steering system 'had a lot of fat' in it when they were trying to make it extra light on the rev chassis.

We'll see I definitly want to ride one and wait about 2-3 years and see how they fare. If they do good all manufactures will likely 'unbuild' some of the over engineering that would be proven by then.

I think they changed the spindles and the steering system -got rid of the "rack" type system that they had in the zx and the rev chassis. They went to a simpler steering system -almost kinda like the original pro-action chassis in the 97' yamahas, but the entire chassis is way different than the current rev. That's why I didn't order a new rev XP - "all new sled" (and the new FX nytro also) give them a year -just in case ?? STILL - for ANY manufacturer to do this -It will force everyone to make everything LIGHTER - thats a GOOD thing !! I kinda like supertrax's comments about the new rev XP " Light is right" !!!!!!!

There going to lighten 'em up too much i think and start jeopardizing the
structural integrity of the unit, not good...i'd rather keep a little weight on
and be "tuff"...
