I have a 97' sx 700 with a new 1.25 ripsaw track. Most of the time, when i excellerate, the track will hit the rear heat exchangers and make a hard clunking sound. luckly i dont have studs. Is there any way to fix this, maybe replacing the rear shocks with a stiffer one? thanks.

You can get protectors that pop rivet over it, but im not sure if you can get them for the stock sx exchanger or if you would have to upgrade to the larger srx cooler.
Are you sure the track is hitting the cooler or is it your track not tight enough making a ratcheting sound, or clunking when you accelerate. I would bet that your track just needs to be tightened up a little bit and your hearing the ratcheting noise.

true, it might just need to be tightened up a bit...i will be working on it this weekend, so ill post back with what i end up doing. I first thought it was the belt slipping, but i ruled that out already. thanks topgunn, appreciate the help.

I agree - tighten up your track a little and see if that helps. Let us know how you turn out.
