I think I want to put a Peak Performance head on my 04 Viper. I want this to complement the Bender triple pipes. My understanding is Bender takes the chambers out to 24cc when they modify the stock head. The PP head has 19-22 cc chambers. Why the difference in chamber size like that? Are the 22s ok for pump gas and some form of reliability beyond the bender modification?
Any suggestions on where to purchase new?

If you go Peak Perf. get the 22cc, mount/torque the head, check squish clearence, check plug and piston wash. Before you go out and run the sh** out of it. If I was to run pipes like I was going to in the past, and was to run a Peak head Id send the domes out to Don. Have him cut them to his recommendation, Id feel alot safer doing that and with that dome selection is really up to you. The reason for the diff. CC domes is for Altitude changes
Keep your eyes peeled on here and Ebay, I personally wouldnt pay $400 for a New Peak Head. Wait it out and look for a used Peak Head or even better some Mega Heads, itll save you half the money.

I have yet to see a used after market viper head with DCS for sale under $300. Been looking for a couple years. Hate to rush into anything...
So are you saying that Peak doesn't know how to cut chambers? Or are you saying that they can't keep their tolerances close enough to be useable? Guess I don't understand why you would want to modify the peak domes.

I think that he is trying to say that Peak might machine the squish band on the tight side. When I read the install instructions for the peak head for my red head motor it says to NOT peel the head gasket or to NOT use a headgasket that has been peeled because it will affect the squish clearance. I think that the vipers are o-ringed, so I don't think that wouldn't pertain to your motor, plus I think that he is saying that the compression ratio might be a little on the high side with a 22cc dome for lower altitudes.

vipers do have the 3 layer head gaskets, its the srx that has the o-ring set up. as for the cc's 22 is kinda low, which raises the compression. the head mod simply evens out the domes on all cylinders as the viper has staggered compression. they are cut out to 24cc which is the size of the largest dome on the viper stock.

Im not saying that Peak doesnt know how to cut heads. The reason I wouldnt feel comfortable running their domes is 1 not all Vipers tolerences are the same, so your getting what everyone else has when your tolerences could me more or less than someone elses. 2 I called Peak Perf. 3 times last year to find out what angle they cut their squish band to and I was told Id hear back from their engineer cause no one else knew and I never recieved a call back. So that right there didnt give me a warm fuzzy feeling about running their domes. Now with you sending the domes out to Don with your squish clearence with the Peak Head the domes will be cut to YOUR machine and Don's recommendation. vs Peak Perf. Who would you trust more with your sled????
