I just picked up the 04' Viper rear suspension that I'm going to be putting in my 98' SRX but I'm going to go over everything first before it goes in. Anyway, I was wondering if there is a way to tell if the shocks need to be rebuilt? The guy I bought the suspension from said the shocks were good but I don't want to take the chance and perhaps have to pull them out again. Or should I just rebuild them anyway?

One way to tell is to compress the shock against something, such as a workbench, if you cannot compress it the full stroke of the piston, you know oil has gotten on the wrong side of the valve stacks. I'm sure there are other, far more scientific methods LOL and this method does not tell one anything about the state of the nitrogen charge if applicable.
