Gota stay off the porn sites.
Haha funny one daman, I bought a Inspiron 9300
I have a Inspiron 8600. I did fry the motherboard once, but that was due to a faulty usb hub, I told that to the customer service guy actually, and guess what happened? Since I have had the pc only for like 2 months, I got a new motherboard on warranty. No issues since, other than that it takes up alot of cpu power when browsing through some news sites on the net.

I can't even count how many of those I have put into businesses (Dell Laptops). They have had the best track record of all the laptops we ever sold. Given that you are asking for an anti virus software I get the impression that some of the issues are user induced.
I have charter cable modem at home. With that they offer a security suite that seems to work OK. Fsecure is the name of it. There are some freebie virus checkers on the net. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Thanks JeepTherapy, I guess the reason why is because of the lack of software I have. I just got a free version of Window Live Care and found tons of viruses and spyware and adware....so hopefully this will help.

Ive had my Dell Latitude for 3 years now and so far, so good. I would have preferred a Sony Vaio, but I got my Dell for $500 and it was only 3 months old.
Thats a tough deal to turn down, especially when you consider that a Vaio would have cost me over $1,000.

some of those freebie virus protection things are crap and just slow your pc down a lot!
True but its been scanning for about 20 minutes so far and I have over 30 viruses and crap...

If you dont have one, get yourself a good spyware scanner too. IMO, a good virus scanner and spyware scanner are 2 things you dont want to be without if you spend any time on the internet.
A popup blocker is good to have too.

Back when I was still working, has been 5 years now, trend micro was one of the better virus scanners out there. google toolbar pop up blocker works good.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop for over 2 years and it is still good.Actually I won the thing at one of our grocery stores with their pull the 4 tabs and match up ticket give aways.Matched up the Dell Laptop.Funny thing you usually never win anything on these things. Was going to chuck it in the garbage, but decided to pull the 4 tabs and got 3 pics of the Dell Laptop in one row.Couldn't believe it.First major items I ever won in years.

I love mine, except for the fact that I've got Norton Anti Virus that sucks. It works well, but it slows my computer down so much. I have 4 different CAD programs for school and they don't even slow my computer as much as Norton.

Wont touch Dell as all of their "service" is out sourced to India!!
Ya I know its a world market but nothing pisses me off more than having to speak to some "tech" who can barely speak English.!!
I always buy my computers locally & fortunately, the guy I work with for home PC's & my business laptops is also a good snowmobile buddy of 20 years. Yep, they cost more, but its like sleds & most other things, ya gets what ya pay for!!
So..........if I have a problem, he not only speaks English, I know where the hell he lives & where his sleds are sitting.........LOL!!!
As stated above, no subsitute for good virus software & you need to spend a few $$ to save a few, ie the laptop. Dont screw with it too long if she's slowing way down, that can be getting close to major hard drive crash!
Nieghbor just went through that, lost everything including 5 years of family pics etc. Dumb not backing up at least once per week if you use it a lot
Remote hard drives are so cheap now there is no excuse not to back up weekly!
Good luck

Avast Antivirus
Spybot Search and Destroy
Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal
clean msconfig regularly.
Disk Cleanup
Disk Defrag
Error check the hard drive
Do those things regularly and you should be good to go. Otherwise chances are that the issues are user inflicted.
You should feel lucky, usually I charge $25 an hour.

Yes, I forgot to add registry cleaners. They are a great tool.
Reg Clean has worked good for me.
