I have an 02 Viper with the stock shocks/springs...the aluminum bodied Kayaba with the silver multi-rate springs. Somebody at Haydays told me to put red straight rate springs out of an SX chassis in the viper and that would make it sit about an inch higher because the stock viper springs sag because of the sled weight issue with multi rate springs....is this true? I really want my viper to sit higher in the front so i'm not plowing so much snow...if anybody has any suggestions please let me know. THANKS!

After I read this I looked to the top of the screen and saw an ad. Give Pioneer Performance a call, they should be able to tell you what you need to do. Seems a number of people have had their shocks rebuilt there. Good luck, XC

if your having trouble with plowing snow height is not the problem, your skis are not wide enough for the riding your doing. adding an inch or two to the height of the sled will do very little for going through deep snow compared to buying a ski that is a couple inches wider and will make your sled ride 5 or 6inches higher on the snow and give your track a better angle to get up on the snow with.

get some mountain skis and this will fix your problem without making your sled ride harder and be tippier in the corner. probly the same money to upgrade too if you sell your stock skis.

I agree with the above post^ you need skis for flotation,i have used Simmons and Sly Dog Powderhounds for those reasons but you could get buy with factory mountain skis

What is the rate

I had some Viper shocks done by Pioneer for my SRX last year and I wanted to use the straight rate springs on them but Bruce at Pioneer recommended using the Viper springs because he said they were stiffer than the SX style. Any truth to this?

sx viper springs are 1.3-2.4-2.8kgf

sx700 springs are 2.3 straight rate

just to add to Betheviper's post...

I had the same problem with my 02 MM... I fooled with front ride height, front shock brackets, tightened up springs so tight I had little suspension... none of this solved my ploughing problem nor kept the snow from kicking off the ski tips into my face....

I then found a pair of Yamaha wide saddless mountain skis and haven't looked back.. Changed the whole ride of the sled completely and made it an absolute delight to ride and boondock in deep snow...

If only I hadn't wasted so much time chasing my tail...

DO NOT TRY LONGER SHOCKS TO FIX YOUR PROBLEM. Trust me it will only give you headaches in the end. Maxdlx

maxdlx i really like the way ur viper is set up just from the picture. I see you have rear skid drop brackets to make your sled sit higher. How do you like those handling wise? i like the idea of having additional clearance. did u have any weight transfer issues? prob doesnt pull the front as much right? did u do anything to ur front suspension? Thanks

I looked at a pic when I bought my Viper in 02, now it looks like a saggy breasted old lady. will rebuilding or repressurizing give the old lady the perkyness she once had?
