I just got my head back from benders. They sent me 162.5 mains and .55 pilots. Isn't that the stock size for my 04 viper? I have a set 162.5 mains and .55 pilots that i took out last year that were factory i think. I installed what came with the pipes last year and can't remember what i put in there. If this is not right, what size do you guy's reccomend?

stock jetting was somewhere around 146.2? and 45 needles, dont quote me but i believe that is what stock is, definately should not be 162.5 in her stock that would make the viper worse than a poo on gas.

Stock Viper 156.3 main, 45 pilot, clip position 3

Id start with at LEAST 165 mains, 50 pilot(55 seems pretty fat), clip position 3.5-4, this is to START then jet down from there its cheaper that way then leaning her out. But all this is what Ive gathered from readings, so Id wait for more people to chime in.

Are you running stock cut head????

I must have put the stock jets back in and thats why i have the 162's. I cant see how that would have happened, I'm alway's very carefull. I'm going to take the carbs off anyway to be sure. The head was sent to Bender for there mod. They also sent an opticool gasket. I think I'm going to try the 162.5's and see if the dcs light comes on. If it does i'll jet up till it stay's off.

I just noticed I asked a question to an answer you had posted first.LOL Oppps

Yea when I was jetting for my pipes(that I never ran) Id always double check my work. Keep an eye out for that light when you run it.

Even if that light goes off you're not going to hurt it. But you may find that 162.5 is too lean and that you can't keep the light off on long pulls.

why is it that the benders have to run such big jetting? i have ran 162.5's and stock needle position with my cpr pipes at -50c and never had a problem with that set up.

I took the carbs off and checked the jets. They had 165's, and .55 pilots. The pipes i got must have come with two sizes. I knew i didn't make a mistake LOL.

redsnake, the benders run right in the meat of the timing curve, so they need extra fuel to cool the piston, the cpr pipes run at a higher rpm and the timing starts to go down after 8800rpm.

Would a SRX CDI fix the fat jetting on Benders somewhat????Or no

It would affect it I am sure, to what extent only someone could find that out with a dyno, youd first off need to baseline the fuel curve then see where then engine would make power at rpm wise. The srx box would be retarding the timing at 8700rpm(where the bender viper pipes run at), so youd need to move the power curve down to 84-8500rpm, its very possible to do this but again it would only be able to be done on a dyno watching the fuel lbs per hour used and monitor the pipe temps in the center section.

Back to his original question... Doesn't his particular jetting depend on elevation and riding temperatures? I know for mine with bender pipes I figure to be in the 165/55 to possibly the 162.5/52.5 range. But I am going to start with 170/55 just to make sure.

I am in the 0-2000 elevation range and don't ride much below 0*F. Don't take my word for it though, I have very little knowledge on the subject. I just know for sure it is much easier and forgiving to start really fat and work down than it is to start really lean and seize a piston.

I ride in 0-1000'. In JAN and FEB it gets to -30c. Any colder and i stay home. Most of the time its around -20c. Maybe i'll start with the 165/55 and change to 170/55 when it gets really cold. It'll all depend on the dcs light and piston wash. Does anyone have a jetting elevation/temp chart for running pipes?

WOW, you guys sure have to run some fat jetting! I can see why, running at such low elevations and temps.

I mostly ride around 5000-6000', and the average temp is probably 10*F. Believe it or not, I'm running the stock settings in the carbs: 156.3 mains, 45 pilot, and 3.0 needle clip.

I have gotten 10-11 mpg on really poor snow days, couldn't hardly do anything but ride the trail. On good powder days with some open meadow playing and lots of hill climbing, I average about 6 mpg. Carry an extra two gallon can every ride.

i bet you guys dont miss a gas station.

I've never checked mileage, and couldn't care less. If it costs me 60.00-70.00 a day, i figure thats a lot of fun for the money. I only ride on weekends when the weather is nice. Never at night and during the week. I spend around 200.00- 250.00 a month on fuel. I'v had very expencive hobbies. This ones the cheepest for the amount of fun i have.
