Ok,

I am thinking about buying a 99 SX 600, but I want to long travel it and do other things as well to it. But my main concern is long traveling it. So if any of you have done this and could let me know what I all need to do, it would be greatly appreciated.....

I have done some searches and I think all I have to do is get the SXR or Viper shocks correct? Or is there something else I have to do???
 
limiter straps, change spacers, shocks, wider radius and tie rods, rubber bushings for the upper shock mounts on the front. you will also need to shim the skis after this is all done.
concept carbon has a set of take offs for sale.

use the search feature and you will find about 10,000 theads on doing this.
 
I just put the viper shocks in mine and re adjusted the toe out on the ski's and it was great. now i have the maxx perf transfer rods (thanks RmRider01) for better transfer.

BETHEVIPER - why do you need rubber bushings for the upper shock mounts on the front?
 
on the sx chassis there is a bracket bolted to the bulkhead to bolt a short travel shock to. When you remove it you will find a aluminum bushing taking up space in the upper hole. This is where the shock will bolt. If you dont press in the correct bushing you can have some binding on your shock end.
 
Do you have a Yamaha part number for these? I just bolted mine right it thinking it wouldnt really matter.

Interesting, no your fine SX700Triple. I just trying to gather as much info as possible if I decide to do this....
 
Alright cool... I found the part number for the upper shock bushing...8CR-2376B-00-00... for a 97 VMax XTC.

I dont think you necessarily need to replace the radius and tie rods if you are used to a somewhat tippy sled which I'm sure you are after owning that XT. I rode all of last season long traveled on the stock rods and it really isnt that tippy.
 
Hmmm so you just put the viper shocks in and different limiter straps and transfer rods....
 
Yes sir. Its super easy to do. You dont need the adjustable transfer rods either, just need to change bushings on the stockers. The price was right on the adjustable rods so I bought em.
 
Good to know as well, no as I have to do is see the sled and if its to my liking then I have me a sled for years to come!

Its the one that Teamblue4 listed in the classified section, it looks very clean and has a newer track. So I am hoping its as mechanically sound as it looks....

I have a '99 SX 600 and did the viper shock swap along with the longer limiter straps, Viper transfer rods and Viper radious/tie rods. I have C&A skis on mine so I did not have to shim the skis, just had to reset the toe-out. I love the mod because it still retained its ability to corner on a rail but now I have the ride I was looking for. I also put on a 1.25" Predator track and did the airbox, head gasket and silencer mods. This little 600 can now hang with a lot of the 700's without a problem. I have about 8,000miles on the sled now so she is going in for an over haul here in a few weeks to get all freshened up.

Hey Coles 55,
Why don't you look for a 2001 Sxr they already have the long travel suspension? Should be around $2000.-$2300. May be cheaper in the long run, sometimes projects cost more then you plan with all of the little extras that get added on.

The sled is still in storage because I have been traveling for work so much lately. I plan to pull the ol' girl out here in a few weeks after I stick that bick buck in my back yard with an arrow or two. I will get some pics and send them your way when I can.
