Signs to see if odometer was un hooked

Anyone know the best way to see if the odometer has been un hooked? I guess just look for wrench marks on that nut?

Besides the wear on the sled.
 

wrench signs are not really a good way to say if it was unhooked because they would have to come off to change something like the track or drivers.
 
There are several other ways to keep the odometer down besides take apart the speedo hookup. You can also just disconnect the speedo 3 bolt up nuts and take out the pin and hook it all back up without the pin.
 
If the sleds come from anywhere like where I live here in Illinois. They are low due to the fact it never snows.
 
There is no way you will know. A sled can have a 1000 miles and look like it has 10,000....and vice versa. I just re-did a 02 that was beat..My 99 with double the miles was 10X's cleaner. As far as the nut...there is no way to verify why they removed it so it can't point to cheating on the miles. Don't forget they could always change the Speedo also. :( Just no good way to know. I would look more at the wear items and compression to determine if it was a good sled for me. I know a leak test is better, but usually people don't have one available.
 
All good info. Guess I will just look at the sled and see the cond. Then if it is good buy it and bring it to my mechanic and have him do a compression test and hoe it checks out.

Also keep in mind different compression testers will show different PSI. As long as all the cylinders are within 5 PSI or so of each other you should be fine. Except for the Viper's, the PTO cylinder on a Viper will show around 10-15 PSI lower than the middle and MAG cylinder if I remember correctly. Not sure what kind of sled you're buying?
