I just got to thinking that is been a decade now since the debut of the first year 1998 proaction SRX 600/700.
All this time and a ton of people still own them, talk about them alot, and ride them ever winter.
I think that would be hard to say about other brands of sleds.

It's up to us old geezers to pass on the story of the SRX to our grand children. The next generation coming up will not have a clue about the SRX's.We have to keep the name alive, otherwise the name will disappear with the next generation. The fastest production sled out of the factory stock that is and will ever be.And they even look hot to boot.Love mine and will never get rid of it.Will look for another perhaps,a 98 or a 2001.Others try to beat us,but they only can follow us.

Theres actually a lot of people who are keeping the old iron alive. I know that a lot of people are fed up with the high prices of new sleds and are instead investing money in making their older sleds better.
Where I ride in NE Wisconsin you actually see more older sleds like Polaris XLTs, 600/700 XCs, 700/800 XCRs and oldschool ProAction Yamahas than you do any of the newer sleds.
It used to be that on the X-Mas/New Year's holiday you'd see all new sleds out on the trails but that has really changed in recent years.

When I was a kid and only could afford an old 79 440 exciter, I felt looked down upon driving that down the trail all winter when everybody had brand new sleds.
Today, I would feel proud to have that sled back and ride it. I will feel the same way about my SRX for years to come.

Yes very true guys.My first 2 sleds I owned firstly were a a 340 Olympic and a 78 440 TNT.Were not great sleds. Then I switched to a Yamaha 440 Exciter in 79.Loved that sled to death.Put that sled thru everything and anything.Sled would not break and could hit 93 mph stock. Then upgraded to the SRX 440 after that.I never looked back,it was strictly Yamaha for life. While everyone else out in my area were into Cats and Polaris,I was on a Yamaha.Been out of sledding for many years after, but came back to Yamaha with my 01 SXR 600 and my 02 SRX 700.I am looking for a 98 SRX700 now for my collection.Blue all the way for me.

The 600's run extremely well when dialed in correctly. They are about 4-5 mph behind the 700's topspeed and acceleration they will stay almost neck and neck.

Well maybe that is why you do not see many 600's for sale because people cant let them go. G.B.

Hey Bluemonster1, that SRX 440 is one sweet sled...do you still have it?
I have been a Yamaha fan since I was 6 years old. My Dad bought a 1977 Kawasaki/Snojet 440ST ( Yamaha 440 engine was stock in it.) We have been Yamaha since, 1978 exciter, 1978 enticer 250, 1984 Phazer (should have kept this one) 1985 340 Enticer, An Ovation (year???) 1989 Phazer (Still Have) 2-1993 Venture GT's, 1994 Vmax 600, 1997 Vmax 600, 1997 Venture long track, 1998 Vmax 600 XT, 2001 SXr 700, and finnally a 2002 Viper.
My parents are now in thier 70's and still ride the 93 Venture GT's a couple hundred miles a year in the Whiteshell where we have a Cottage.

That and I think they only made them for 2 years.Besides most people around here who wanted a Yamaha speed machine would just plunk down the extra dough for a 700.Gone Blue said:Well maybe that is why you do not see many 600's for sale because people cant let them go. G.B.

blkmax600,I got rid of that sled many years ago. There were some crank issues with them, mind you if I never took it in for changes,I may still have that 440 SRX today.Loved that sled.Yamaha did an update on the sled, but everytime I got it back I blew a piston within 5 minutes of riding.Went back under warranty, replaced things...again blew piston.Got it changed again under warranty and just traded it in for a Tri-moto.Lost a lot of bucks in the trade. In those days I don't know how accurate the speedo's were, but hit 115 mph on it no problem.Wish I could have it back now.,fixed properly only.
We have to go riding this season,I have a trailer now.Another friend of mine is looking for a sled.I am telling him to go Yamaha for sure. Most probably he is looking into a Viper.I want to go on that TY ride next Feb. also.
