If your viper is stock, HP between the 2 sleds is probably the same or very close. It will all depend on clutcing and traction
You should be able to pull him in a long distance run though. If you get ahead of him from the start, the race is over, its very very hard to catch a tripple.

I just saying, I wouldnt under estimate those sleds. They are pretty quick for a 600

BTW
On poo and doo, You cannot tell if he has a helix on it or any clutch work for that matter
At my last race out in Wa State, when we ran stock class and I do mean stock with no aftermarket clutch stuff, I dont even think they checked too poo's and doos for a helix or any kind of stuff like that. I got away with it only because I ran a stock Yamaha 51/43 helix off of a RX-1 which looks stock

I wouldnt throw your money away on a kit. Just use some yamaha parts you can get from this site.
ALot of people are running a 53/43 helix in the viper
PM mrviper for a set-up you can get a nice set-up on this site for a few hundred less than what bender or hauck will charge you.
What way is he going to regear his sled. Its will be barder for his twin to pull taller gears off the line. And if he goes for steepper gearing, he will have too much spin and lose some top end. Its all a game of traction gearing and clutching.

Not really
Youll beat a 02 600 pretty easily. Ive beaten 3 mxz 700's, and rev 600sdi's and so on and the 600 mxz get beat by them also

those older chassis doos (zx???) i dunno the technical name for it are quick machines, my buddy had one and he could beat 700's most of the time.... and his was completely stock, and between the newer revs and the older style his would always come out on top so ditto tomseal, i wouldnt underestimate them, especially if its running right, i've seen a few guys a bit upset when there 700's got beat by his 600, lol including me once lol

I agree my buddies '03 rev 600 would take my slightly moded SRX 600 (vertical dividers removed from air box, reeds, can, boost bottle-if it even helps). Granted the Doo had a clutch kit, dropped 1 tooth on top sprocket, pipe, head, reeds, can. They are faster than most people think. I mean they are quicker, not faster, top end is pretty weak.

top end is definately weak, seems to be all the new doos are like that.
