Picked up a really straight and solid 1980 Exciter. It starts after a half pull and idles great and has great compression, but bogs so bad that it wont pull itself across the grass? On the stand it revs to about 5,500-6,000 slowly and will burry the speedo, but on the ground it has nothing? It doesnt miss but sort of sounds like it drops down to 1 cylinder off idle. The clutch side plug looks fine but the mag side is usually a little damp. I did find the bumper bolt to the belly pan where the wiring grounds was loose so that took care of my dim lights and also I found a fraid yellow wire under the seat but nothing yet has resolved the bog and lack of power. I know both cylinders fire from feeling the y pipe but Im guessing without EGT's that the mag side is not as hot. I have changed plugs several times and no diff. Thanks!

I already pulled the reed cages and the reeds are perfect. The carb is spotless and I did cut off a 1/4" off the coil wire and re-threaded them back into the original caps but I could try new caps to I guess.

Yeah, I already went through the clutches and although the primary is getting pretty sloppy (6,000+ km), it is in tact and was nothing more than dusty--but had good free movement and the spring was not broke. TONY--ONE THING I DID NOTICE THOUGH WAS THAT THE PRIMARY SHEAVES GET REALLY WARM TO HOT DURING THE 1-3 MIN I RUN IT ON THE STAND. I THOUGHT I WOULD HOPEFULLY FIND A BROKEN PRIMARY SPRING BUT NO LUCK???
Tom---The very first thing I did was clean the carb and make sure the choke wasnt sticking but I am goig to disconnect the plunger from the cable and make darn sure that it is fully seated in the carb though...
