hey guys,
I am getting my viper ready for winter after running the tar this summer. During the summer i switched to a heel clicker setup, and i wish to use this on the trails this winter. After talking to heel clicker to get a starting point they told me to run the stock helix with the stock red spring. I asked about multi and helix and he said to stay around a 49-43. Any of you have any suggestions? I have some others laying around (51-43, 51-37) and just what those would do. I also have a max perf. helix, but i dont know what it is. Is there a way to tell? measure? There is a part number on it. Any help would be great. Thanks

with the stock spring? i also have the clicker yellow spring. When i asked about the 51-37 they said the spread was too big that it wouldnt oull it down?
I use a 48/34 Advantage and I've had good results with my stock Viper. 114MPH bare ice radar run last year. In a more trail friendly setup it maxes out at about 108MPH.

I would personally use a 48/34 in a single piped viper, but i am just telling you to use what you have already on hand, the 51/37 can be made to work well with h/c's, I would run the red h/c primary spring only and a green yamaha secondary spring with the 51/37

try your 51/37 with green at 70, red primary h/c spring with 4-5 grams in heel, nothing in middle hole and 3.3 in tip, you may be able to add more in tip if it over revs(thats a good sign)
another set up that worked well for trails and field racing was 5 grams heel, long bolt with 1 washer in middle hole, empty tip with a 48/38 helix with red secondary spring at 80

Its all about the finish angle with h/c weights, so if we have the same start of 51, they both will upshift the same, but the 37 degree finish helix will start to SLOW the shift down earlier and also will apply more pressure to the belt in the secondary clutch because its a shallower angle. This requires less secondary spring tension and makes the sled go faster. The other benefit of the smaller finish angle is it allows you to run more tip weight in the primary, meaning your clamping the belt better in both the primary and the secondary. If we tried to do the same thing with the 43 finish youd have to run LESS tipweight in the primary and MORE secondary tension, the steeper the finish the more your loading the engine on topend via the secondary clutch. This leads to the front clutch trying to upshift and the rear clutch trying to backshift from the added secondary spring tension to control the shift rate of the steeper helix finish, they (front and rear clutch)fight each other and get into a dead zone lock, where the sled will kinda just make noise and not pull rpm or speed, just kinda flat feeling. If you want to read more on this its in the FAQ section, under heel clicker clutching tips.
the only stupid question is the one you dont ask!
