TURK: if you can help me out with a starting point for my jetting. I have a 98 srx 700. Ported, reed spacers, heads shaved, squish angle modifed and PI pipes. I am not to good at the carb stuff, but i need to learn soon. (so i will be atleast trying it myself). I just need a little bit more fuel. But if you give me a setting i will go and get some jets and try it out, and then go from there.

I got the PI pipes on today. the sled sounds much better, and even starts and runs much better than before. I know my sled was running PIG rich before. And i did run the sled for a little while with the pipes on to get a little tatse of the new sound. I did pull the plugs out (brand new set), and they looked to be ok, but did have a little "white" around the diameter of the electrode. I know it will change from now and to when it gets colder, but i need something to go with so i dont do any damage.

I checked the spark plug colourm charts in the technical info pages (29 different plug pictures) and it seems to look like Number 17. Which stattes it to be best, but it wasnt very cold today. around 10 and i sled in -20 to -10 weather. I sled in Ontario and i am not to sure on the altittude.

thanks so much, Nik

Check your other post. I replied. Use this only as a baseline, and do a hell of alot of plug checks and check your wash frequently since you don't have EGT's.

If i was to add EGT what temp should i be running at? and got your other post. Thanks, Nik.

EGT's somtimes differ from machine to machine, believe it or not, and probe placement also makes a big difference. I used to run mine around 1350 degrees. It takes a while to figure out what temps to run at. Just do alot of testing, constantly checking your wash, and you'll figure out what temps to run.

So i would have to rip off the head to check the wash all the time???? That is umm, not somethig i want to do all thew time, LOL. But i guess to start i might have to.

ANYONE ELSE PLEASE????????

remove your plug and go with a little light inside the cylinder you will see everything :-)

It really depends on how aggressive your porting is considering it is a 98 SRX. I am not sure how far past the 2000 specs you went with your porting and how much you cut the heads. I am running V-force 2 reeds in my sled aswell. As I have told you before, I would just go up 2 jet sizes from what you were running before the pipes and that will be plenty safe and probably pretty spot on to what you should be running in the mains. As for Pilots, I found the 45's the be a little on the rich side but not bad. If I were you, I would run 45's in the pilots, and 2 up from your current mains across the board. Go out on a nice average Temp day and do a short WOT run. Kill the ignition right after/during the run and pull the plugs out and see where you are at. That should be plenty safe so I would just give them a read. Hope this helps

don't forget to check mid range plug and wash readings
Needle jet
Pilot = Idle
Needle = Midrange
Main = WOT

Or get a Holtzman aatac and jet for -30
Let it adjust your jetting as needed.
I have one on an 01 MM 700 Last season it ran flawlessly with Bender pipes

How would i adjust the midrange?

UPDATE: 152.5 across the board, and 42.5 across the board. This is the current setup before the pipes were added.

I will try and see how 45 across the board runs, and 155 across the board. I think this will be fine.

*IF anyone has 3-45's and 3-155, and 3-157.5 let me know. jets for me please let me know, i can send a money order right away*

Keep in mind taht my sled was running rich before. So i think one size up will be fine, but if anyone has a set of 155's and a se of 157.5 let me know. I will keep some for backups.

You adjust the midrange by moving the needle clips. Moving the clip down a notch, which in turn moves the needle itself up, will make it richer. Move the clip up a notch and it lowers the needle, blocking the opening more and allowing less gas in. The needles are located under the top cover of the carbs. If its still in the stock position it should be in the middle (#3 position).

^ oh, now i know. Thanks so much. I ripped open the carbs last night and they arent as complicated as i thought. I iwll be jetting today. I doubt they are in stock possition, as nothing else was. It will prolly be in 4, but i will check. and open it up more.

Well guys, work has been crazy. And I just got my mom to order some jets down in NY. She went down for the weekend, and the jets are 2.50 each (here 8-10 each). So i got 3-45's, and 3-155's. I just adjusted the needle. I set it at #4, it was at #3. I will be putting the jets in when they arrive. Then back on the sled the carbs go. We are getting some snow soon, so i need it to be ready. Do you guys think this'll be ok?

Nik

I used to have to run one size up on the mag side of the motor with the stock carbs and airbox. Make sure you check your plugs and wash frequently, you will probably have to do the same. It think with that jetting you will be a bit rich, but it's probably a good baseline.

well i had 152.5 across the board, and 42.5 across the board. The engine has been ported, and cleaned up. What do you felel will be to rich? mid, low, high?
