I am thinking of installing egt's on my ported 2002 SRX. I wanted to get the Racepak avenger 3 but I see it is no longer available. What do some of you guys recommend? I liked the way the Avengetr 3 was so compact.

We have run a few avengers up here, and have had problems with nearly every one. I would recommend going with a Digitron.

I had a redline package which was a 3 probe monitor in a 2/58" single gauge. I never hooked it up before i sold the pipes for my viper. Looked like a extremely well built unit and the owner was more then freindly. Didn't have memory if I recall or it was real limited compared to the avenger but it did have programmable warnings that cause the gauge to blink or you can buy accessories to make it be loud and extra LEDs to shine in your face whatever LOL. Price is right I know that.

Don't know about prices, but Digitron has been a real pleasure to work with. I bought a kit for my '96 XCR and shortly after installing them I had the sled at the dealer and they really screwed them up. Someone took a screw driver to the key pad and I also had a few segments in one of the displays working intermittently. I sent the unit off to Digitron and within a week had it back with a new keypad and new LCD displays... All for no charge.

I was hoping to have the displays fixed for free but fully expected to pay for the hack job the dealer did to the keypad. Great tech help along with customer driven response to an out of warranty concern.

Bought new stinger probes for the SRX and TIG welded the bungs on the bottom side of the pipe. Still working great. needless to say I haven't been back to a dealer for service again.

Save your $$

They are more of a pain than they are worth IMO. Save your money. Jet it a little safe and run it.

The reason I thought they might be a good idea is because I am adding new TMX 38's and I thought for jetting them the egts would be a good idea.

They are not for jetting, they are for monitoring. You select your jets based on piston wash THEN you can monitor your EGT's once you have established the temperatures based on that piston wash. The EGT's can give you various temperatures due to probe location, timing and other variables which is why they are not used for baseline jetting. MRVIPER700 has some good posts on this topic.....do a search.

I disagree completely. They are an excellent tool for monitoring your engine specifics. Madmatt is right, you can't just slap them onto your sled and run it at 1350 or 1400 degrees. You need to figure out what temperatures are safe for you to run for your application through checking your piston wash time and time again, but once that has been figured out, and you know your lean temperatures, you can run it close to the edge on a regular basis. They are excellent for someone like myself who jets for each day. They read the actual rpm of your snowmobile (your tach might be out a bit), and you can get other probes such as water temperature probes, which is a damn nice feature on the SRX's when running on the glare ice in the springtime with no lube, since they have cooling issues. To each his own though.
