Wishing for snow!
Hey guys, I took the air box off of my sled today. It is FILTHY, and I would rather not have it in. I was wondering if i run a custom "ram air" to the K&N style filters would they be worth it? I have a POS of hood that i can try a couple things out. I would drill a whole on each side of the hood above where the filters would be, and then use a "mold" to make some kind of "ram air tubing" out of fiberglass. I woulod then sand it all down and make it look like it was a part of the hood. I would be getting a new hood, so i could copy what i do on the POS hood and then i will be getting it painted anyways so thats no biggy. But would this work, or would they still suck in hot air? I would just like to remove some weight (next project for the sled) and make acsess a little easier, especially for jetting the carbs with the pipes i need to tune.

I dont think the gains will be worth all the trouble, and it will be a nightmare to jet for winter conditions due to the extra air on top end, and the issues with snow turning to ice on the filter surface, and then restricting your air. I honestly think you are way better with the factory setup. Can't you just clean the airbox?

yes i can clean it, i will be cleaning it and putting it in again. i thought i would just ask to see if this would be worth the trouble. But also when people say take the vertical dividers out of my air box, are they talking about the cylindrical pieces? the three of them?

There should be vertical "walls" basically in your air box. You can take them out on the older srxs for a couple h.p. If you aren't the first owner, the previous owner may have already done it.

Run the airbox.
There would be two of the dividers, vertically, making 3 seperate chambers inside the airbox. When you pull out the screws from the top of the airbox, there will be a shelf in there that has the 3 horns (cylindrical pieces) attached to it. Underneath that will be the two dividers, if they haven't been previously removed. Put the shelf back in, and then the top cover.
