Selling to Canada from US

Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to accept an offer for one of my sleds from a Canadian resident.
If he comes into the US to pick it up and pays US cash.
I'm I going to have to worry about any taxes or fees coming in the mail to me later on?
And Can I sell a new sled to him as used writen for less
How should I write the bill of sale?

Any help would be great
 
there is nothing to you as the seller. he will be required to have the sled sit in the us for 3 days before his side will let it cross.
 
i sold a sled to a guy in canada & he didnt want anything from me & they didnt make him wait three days? & when i bought a sled in canada they didnt make me wait.is this just a random thing or are they suppost to do that?
 
They are supposed to do that for "vehicles". Often only enforced for cars and trucks (Always) Sleds, 4-wheelers, etc, they often let you just drive up. Keep a copy of the Bill of Sale to cover your butt, nothing can come back on you from the border or Canada.

everytime i go through i just tell them im going to a race.1 guy seemed kind of suppicious though.he said race(snowmobile in the summer) i laughed..
 
I did research last year because i was going to buy a sled from the States and the buyer needs to call the border 2 days in advance with the sled information and it will cost him around 200 to 250 and then once he registers it in Canada the buyer will pay taxes on the sale. For a new sled i would not low ball it. We did this on a local sale in Canada ( 2004 Venom) last year and the Gov of Canada called both parties to make sure the stories were straight.

I just bought a used sled in MN. and imported it into Canada. I wouldn't low ball the price since I have heard of stories where they phone both parties...better have your stories right. You have to inform the American border patrol 72HRS in advance, this is so they can do a check to make sure it is not stolen or has any liens against it. At the border the buyer pays GST (tax) on the purchase price and fills out a form for R.I.V. When he gets home he pays a $206.00 fee online to RIV. Check out thier website WWW.RIV.CA for the procedures. It is really a piece of cake if you do your home work.
 
Make sure you have the title as well as a bill of sale. The Canadian buyer should call the Registrar of Imported vehicles (RIV) for details about border crossing and taxes etc. I would also call the US border crossing and ask if there is anything they require before they will release it from the US. I have never imported a sled so don't those details but have imported several cars and boats. Needed US customs releases, titles, bill of sale and money. You can pay the GST at the Canadian border with a credit card. PST should kick in when its registered. Buyer may be required to pay an inspection fee. In the case of a boat trailer I imported, I had to take it Canadian tire where a mechanic checked the tires and lights. Once Canadian Tire signs the inspection certificate, I had a few weeks to get that document back to the Canadian Feds to close the file. I did lots of research before I tried to import and all went smooth. Hope this helps you. Good luck.
 
I just bought an 07 apex rtxer from maine a few weeks ago.
Saved over 3 g's. It is a peice of cake!
If I had the money, I'd be buying sleds from the states weekly and sellin here.

just a heds up for anybody going to the us to buy a yamaha. it seems that yamaha has joind the party and is trying to stop canadians from buying in the states. i whent down to new york with a friend of mine who was going to buy a sled and wanted me to go because i have done it a couple of times before. as of thursday(oct 25) yamaha will no longer write a recall clearence on their products. witch means withought that letter a snowmobile cannot be registered in ontario. boy was that dealler pissed. he had 2 rinos and 3 grizzlys that were supposed to be going to canada this week. just a heads up
 
they think it is. there working on a way to get around it. like possibly registering everything they have in stock, that way it can be sold as used.
 
All a dealership in the states has to do is register the sled to one of their workers or family members, then sell the sled "private". There is always a way if you want something bad enough.
