I put 5" Rox risers on my 99 SRX - called Mountain Performance to add a steering post stifffener to safegaurd against breaking off the steering column. They have discontinued this part. Are the newer SRX columns built stronger than the 99 models? I am wondering if I should upgrade my steering post. Any suggestions? I am posting this in the SRX section also.

They seem to break just under the top plate. I weld angled gussets just under the top plate down the shaft 2 or 3 inches for support. Ive also dropped a solid post down the inside and drilled holes for plug welds. I havent seen stronger ones. If you do let me know.

The 01 and 02 are built stronger. I snapped mine off on my 00. It sucked, I ended up on the hood. Just get some 1/2" pipe at Homw Depot and drive it down the tube as far as you can and add a weld at the top. It works great. That is how I repaired my 00's busted shaft. I have 5" risers and never had another issue.
