SXR Clutch Overheating

I have a 2000 Sxr 500 with approx 3000 miles on it and it seems like it burns alot of belts and the clutch overheats too often. The sled has a 136 inch track and i still have the stock clutching in it... i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what i could do to help the clutch run cooler. The other problem i noticed is that the clutch will sometimes squeel and will actually idle forward if it is sitting on flat ground. i cleaned the clutch and although i didn't see anything broken i didn't really disassemble it to check for any broken parts. any suggestions would help me out, i am pretty new to clutching, thanks.
 

Check your alignment

Your belt deflection is out of whack and maybe the cause of a squeel at idle

Take out the 3 washers on the back side of your secondary clutch. There are 3 bolts with washers. If there are 2 washers under the bolt, just take one out.

Check your alignment first to see if this cures the problem
 
On the yamaha twins, 3000 miles, I would say your most likely in need of a primary clutch overhauling, the twins were hard on the bushings and moveable buttons. the triples are a much smoother running engine and did not eat up the clutchs like the twins did. Wear on the roller bushings, spider buttons and clutch weights will result in extra friction to slide the sheaves together, this will in turn slip the belt and creat friction which results in clutch heat. I would pull the primary apart and replace which ever bushings need it and replace the clutch spring as well. As Tom said, your center to center, offset and belt deflection should all be checkd and adjusted as well when you reinstall the clutch after service. If your unfamiliar with clutch work, see if theres a member here close to you that could come over and offer a few pointers/help, theres a ton of people on this site who have the knowledge and are super nice people to help you.

it's not all that hard to do, but you will need a few special tools...remember to mark/mock everything up, take notes in witch direction the nut(s) are on...take a few pic's as you go-great for referencing & to post if you are concerned with what you find-like cracks/grooves...look up torque values & loktite location/applications

ok i think i am going to try and give this thing a try and rebuild it. If worst comes to worst it is my fiances' sled so i am not ruining my own :-D. i have looked at a few diagrams and it doesn't look too complicated but correct me if i am wrong... i am going to start by using a clutch puller and threading that into the shaft of the primary clutch, after that pops off i will have to take the spider off using that "special tool" that theblues said to use, after i have that removed it looks like i just inspect the rollers and bushings that look worn out and replace those.. does that sound about right? I know that i should make sure to line everything up as it came off and take pictures to ensure it goes together the same way it came off.. also while i have it torn apart should i replace the spring or weights, and if i am replacing them should i stick with stock or does anyone recommend a different setup?
