My 94 v max 600 was burning a tremendous amount of oil at the end of last season.
I know from others that these machines were notoriously hard on oil, but not this bad. After some investigating this fall I discovered that my cable was adjusted all the way and the jam nut was at the far end instead of jammed where it should be. I gave the cable some slack but does anyone know where the recomended setting is? Do I let the arm bottom out at idle, or does it need to have tension on the cable.
I was suspecting a bad pump after some research but I'd like to get the cable adjusted first. As well is there any way to repair these pumps if mine is shot?

Make sure the throttle cable is properly adjusted first. Then pull back the rubber shield on the oil pump cable at the adjuster. Pull the cable apart at the adjuster and measure the distance between the outer cable ends. The book calls for 27-29 mm or 1.06 to 1.14 in. Adjust the cable to that distance, tighten the lock nut, put it back together and you are done. "Note" greater distance = less oil, smaller distance = more oil. I always side on more oil to be safe.
