i know this subject has been beat to death . but im a little confused . I read the tech article and it says to power the servo with the battery . My Viper S has no battery . so ? And do i need to buy some tool to adjust them if i just want to clean them ? Or is it just as simple as unbolting the 4 screws in each one - sliding them out and cleaning them up ? My sled is apart right now so i cant run it . the head is off and the pipes are off , I figured theres no better time than now . If anyone can just give me a few simple dumbed down steps to do it id really appreciate it , thanks . :letitsnow

only need a battery if you are going to adjust them. To clean them, you can just take the 4 allen screws out and pull the valve(s) out. Please do it one at a time so you don't get confised at to which one goes where

Simple procedure I did:

Start engine

choke engine till it almost dies and you see the servo activate

Shut engine off

Pull each valve out seperatly and clean with scotchbrite pad till its shiny

Install valve and feel on the inside of the cylinder, feel if the valve is sticking in or not, you want it to be flush

If not flush adjust till it is

Do this for all 3 and yoru done.

Hmmm. I've never worried about making sure that each valve goes back to where it came from. They're all the same part #, right?

It was more for the cables, isn't each cable a little different in length, once you get them adjusted properly?

2 cables are the same one is differnt, 1 cable is a little bit longer as it wraps around the servo pulley more. the metal end is bent slightly differnt one as well to help clear the exh.

Scotchbright pad and a razor blade with the carb cleaner.
This shines my valves up like new. Just be careful with the razor you can really gouge the valves up b/c they are very soft.

I use a new razor blade in a holder. If your carefull will take it right off after you soak them in parts cleaner for a bit before to loosen up the crud. The valves are hard anodized so dont use easy off oven cleaner on them or anything too harsh, also just be carefull to not nick the valve when using the blade, slow steady pressure will take it right off usually.

I see from the breakaway pics on the tech section that the valve has a slot that the cable slips into , is it possible to just take the valve completley off the cable to clean at a bench without having to readjust them ?

That was how I did mine. Hope it wasn't wrong... I also noticed that my valves had some dents in them that appear to be from where they have vibrated in the slot. Normal??? I soaked mine in injector cleaner for a short time and then scraped them with a fresh blade like Don spoke of. I actually thought it was very easy to clean them. I cleaned the slots after I had the cylinders off. That was a little harder but still not too bad.

Thought I should add, I adjusted mine after cleaning them. The adjustment on mine was off when I first checked it. I have an ER so that was also very easy. Would have been easier with a second 2.5 allen wrench.
