Can the center shock be installed upside down? Thinking it might make it a little easier to adjust the threaded coller if it was pointing down istead of up.

i dont think so. the shocks are valved different for compression and rebound thus putting the shock in upside down would change the way the shock would work. the shock should bolt up alright but i would not do it.

Doesn't mattter!
You can bolt the shock anyway you want they are gas so it doesn't matter. I reversed mine before and it was easier to adjust, but I finally decided to get a new skid :-)

I posed that question before & BTV said either way. That's how I did mine to reach the collars easier. I just ran accross it because I noticed in a tech pic it was different than my shop manual & asked on here.
Thanks guys, I have the Viper skid I'll be putting in the SRX sitting on the garage floor as I'm doing the BTV bushing fix on it before it goes in and thought I'd check and see if anyone else had thought of flipping the shock around. Much appreciated!!
Let me know how that goes, bought a set of viper shocks for mine and will be sending them to PP for some work.
Are you keeping the front stock, Ohlins on yours to?

Ya I'd like to keep the Ohlins on the front so I figured I'd just do the "shock mount flip" to raise the front a little.darkangel said:Let me know how that goes, bought a set of viper shocks for mine and will be sending them to PP for some work.

I'm still changing out all the bushings, adding the PP Wheel spacer kit as well as the small wheel kit and Bender transfer rods. The Viper suspension I have is pretty much identicle to mine on the SRX, just not in as good a shape so I'm just swapping the shocks into mine instead of using the complete skid.
I bought a set of the modded shock mounts off eBay, cheap enuf...
I also ordered the Ohlin shock extenders from PP to match the rear. When I talked to Bruce from PP about the shock setup, I also mentioned to him I had the Bender transfer rods and he suggested that I use the stock ones even tho my stock rods are the long version and the Benders are the same length???

Hmmm....I wasn't aware that they had shock extenders. Guess I'll have to check into that!darkangel said:I bought a set of the modded shock mounts off eBay, cheap enuf...

I wonder why he said to use the stock transfer rods? Rats, and I have them on already. I guess I'll do some research and see if anyone else is using them with the long travel suspension and wether or not they had any issues. Thanks for the heads up darkangel! Very much appreciated!

I see your new Thread...I to have the Benders already mounted, but did keep the old ones. Also went to Benders site and they list the Viper, SRX and RX1 as the same...so I don't know...will maybe have to give them a call.
Thanks Concept Carbon, I'm planning on flipping the shock mounts but if I screw up and wreck mine I'll definitely be needing those mounts!!Concept Carbon said:i have some mounts if you need baught them on ebay and nerver used them just pm me an offer
I hope I can use them as I just bought the dang thingsdarkangel said:I see your new Thread...I to have the Benders already mounted, but did keep the old ones. Also went to Benders site and they list the Viper, SRX and RX1 as the same...so I don't know...will maybe have to give them a call.
I measured them against the old ones to make sure I had the gaps correct, and they are indeed the same length and everything. I tried doing a search but didn't come up with anything so I thought I'd start a new thread and see if anyone has any thoughts on wether to use them or not. Oh well, I guess if I can't use the Benders I'm still better off than I was before as the Viper suspension has the stock adjustable transfer rods where as my stock 98' SRX were not.

I hope you had the shocks revalved. I just finished dynoing a set of viper skidframe shocks and they are the stiffest shocks i ran on my dyno so far. The center shock is bigtime stiff on compression and rebound. Anyone have any valving specs on something that works. I'm going to revalve the set I have alot softer , but have no yamaha experience
The earlier Viper shocks were indeed very stiff but by 04' Yamaha had revalved them for a much better ride. Not sure what the specs are though.skippydoo said:I hope you had the shocks revalved.
