So, in the last week or so there have been several threads regards bad plug caps occurring, so I am going to go out on a limb here, and say the age of our sleds is approaching the life expectancy of these caps, and they are starting to degrade from age. So, should a guy consider changing them out as a maintenance issue now or just remove/cut cable back/reinstall exisiting ones? If replacing is the answer, do you use the NGK ones or new OEM? What about the cables from the coil, if I read the posts correctly I've searched, these are not removeable from the coil, so cannot really be replaced, except as a unit with the coil? NGK apparently makes a connector to splice the old/new wire, but I am not so sure that's a good idea anyways.
Or are they an if it ain't broke, don't fix it?
I think we need snow so I quit dreaming up more stuff to do to the sled! LOL
Actually calling for colder and flurries here this week now! :letitsnow

I just take the old caps off, snip back the wire about 1/8 to 1/4 put new NGK caps back on and your good to go. Some people just test the resistance (5 ohm) and leave them. I read on here a long time ago that if you can break the glue that holds the wire in the coil, then the wire will unscrew out and all you have to do is screw a new one in. I HAVEN'T tried this, so I wouldn't want to recommend it to anyone.

So do the new NGK ones just kind of thread on so to speak? You don't have the actual part # for them by any chance?
Thanks for the reply.

I just use the cheap NGK from Canadian Tire or Royal Distributing. The rubber TB05EMA are a tight fit to get the wire in. I use the plastic & rubber LB05EZ they are cheap, never had a problem with them and they are a little longer in length so after trimming the ig. wire a couple of times they still fit. They both just screw on, and I put a small plastic tie around the rubber cap and ig. wire so the wire dosen't back off. Hope this helps. Dave ( I still like your riding partners)

OK thanks guys, I'll think I'll throw a set on, can't hurt. I know I had problems with ZRT once that turned out to be a plug cap, so maybe they should be changed out every 4/5 years.
