Anyone have any advice on painting exhaust pipes, i am using high temp paint but am doing the job in my shed and the temperature her in northern New Brunswick is below zero right now all i did is give them one quick coat because i had the manifold sand blasted and did not want the piece to rust, any advise would be great thanks.

I painted an old set on the v-max 4 I used to have, I just sanded them down a bit and then sprayed them with a coat of primer and then sprayed them with some high temp paint... Now if its below freezing you have to be careful, I have spray painted in cold temps before but you should have a heater pointing at the area to keep it semi warm and then you shouldnt have a problem... just give it awhile to dry and dont rush it and you shouldnt have any problems at all.

Did not use any primer but i will do the rest of the painting at my dad`s he has a wood stove in his shed will post pics when finished thanks for the info.

What kind of paint...I used 1200* car header paint on an old cat I had & it burned off. There is some better stuff out there, not sure the brand. Also, if your spraying around a wood stove, make sure you ventilate well.

I used this stuff http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/techline/index.html#exhaust came out great! Takes a lot of prep though, it is expensive and takes a warm place to spray it. Dries very fast and then cures on the sled while running it.

Wow that looks awsome but was not looking to getting into all that prep work, just purchesed the last weekend and just want to clean up the exhaust and make it look decent but you did a great job on your pipes.

I used high temp black bbq grill paint on my pipes and it worked great. Havent had any peeling or flaking issues yet. Just make sure you wire brush or sand off any existing oxidation (rust) and clean them and dry them real good. The BBQ paint was pretty cheap and seems to have done a good job. You can get it at Home Depot, Lowes, or WalMart.

I used the same thing on my Bender triples when I has my SXr. Worked great for me, to.

I am getting ready to paint my head pipe with PJ1 Fast Black exhaust paint. It is rated for 1500 F' and it only cost $8.00 a can. G.B.

Thats what i used Gone Blue i used about a half can and 15 to 20 min before coats seemed to work real good will see this season how long it will last.

Cool, I figured it was cheap enough and if it did'nt work out I could always spend more money next year on it. G.B.
