I can let you burrow a set-up that won me alot of races.
Gears,chain, jets, clutching..
It a pretty descent set-up.. Its Tony's set-up.. He swore by this for years.. will be good for a beginner.

well with what you have use, use the 8bu-00 weights with either a alum .8 in first hole , or just empty first hole and a 4.5 rivet in tip. I always used a white maxx performance spring it was 60/135kg,(they went out of buss.) so in a yamaha spring use a grn/wht/grn with a small 4mm shim, you can make the shim if need be from some pvc pipe, just cut one. The run your 52/42 helix with a green secondary spring at 80-90 depending upon how good your traction is. For the chaincase run a 1.95 ratio, or 21/41.
to get the sled to really leave good ,lower it down some, tighten up the front limiter straps, loosen the rear big shock till you have about 3/4-1 inch of thread showing, then put yur FRA adjuster on soft. I then add shims to the BOTTOM of the rear trnasfer rods this will suck down the back of the skidframe, you dont want the rear idlers to not touch the ground with the sled sitting there on your garage floor adjust till the track sits nice and flat. you can get the rear close then fine tune the angle of the sled with the front ski springs.

This is what I have and have used which worked very well for me..
8BU-00 wieghts
bender orange primary with 12MM of shims.
19/40 gears (I believe I have a 21/41 if you decide to go with that)
51/43 helix (52/42 would be better)
I used 135 mains but it was 80 degrees out.. I think I still have them.

black maxx would work good, thats a 68/136kg spring, no shim needed with it, those work good.

How long off a chain do I need for the 21-41 ratical or will my stock one work?

youll still have 2 inchs of travel setting up the skid like I mentioned.
youll need a 70link chain for the gears. stock 98 srx has 68link 15 wide chain stock as they had 23/37 gearing stock.

Thanks very much for your preveuis offer tomseal.Iam going to run the 21-41 gearing .I have a 21 top cog so I will just order a chain and bottom cog from royal its only 2 days away so I would have them Monday. My luck if I were to get a loan of yours it would get stuck in costoms and I would not get them in time.tomseal6 said:This is what I have and have used which worked very well for me..

Well I finely got my sled set up .I could"nt get a 41 bottom in time so I went with 1.95 and the sled pulls wicked hard only one problem the sled comes out off the hole real strong for about 50ft and seems to shift into high gear for about 5-10 ft and then goes back to nomal and then it flys . I have the seacondary set at 80 will 90 solve this.

what secondary spring ya using?
Also is it pulling the ski's more then a 6-8inchs on the start?
what rpm does it come out of the hole at?? and whats the tach do rev up to 8100 or sp rpm, then come out and overshift?, meaning the tach drops rpm for a brief second then picks rpm back up, what rpm does it cross the finish at?
