I think goo gone will work on the windshield without damage.

sticky stuff
Goo gone or Goof off I have used both on windshields and it takes the stuff off great. Goo gone I get at Menards and Goof off I get at O'reilly auto parts.

3m adhesive remover
all I've ever used for this on my sleds is WD-40 spray it on liberaly and put some elbow greese into it with a soft clothe. It does seem to smear around alot, but just add more WD and use a clean spot on the rag, it comes off. I personaly dont think goo gone works any better.
sudsy ammonia, available at any grocery store. apply and cover with saran wrap for 15 min then wipe off.

Peanut butter!! sounds silly....but spread it on...let it sit for a few hours and wipe it off and the glue will be gone, works like a charm

Unless you have actually used Goof Off on a windshield before with luck, I wouldn't reccommend it. I used it yesterday for an old trail sticker. It started to cut it, then just smeared & got hard...like it melted the top layer of the shield. I tried to clean it again...no luck. I used soap & water...windex...no luck. I'm not sure what to do now...maybe a big sticker. Goof Off did not work for me, it TRASHED my windshield.

Goof off is more harsh chemical, I wrecked a windshield with it too. Goo gone is more mild and safer for plastic.
Goo Gone works best with a clean cloth. It is safe on the plastic and paint. Read the back for all applications.
