Hello Fellow yami fans, I have a 2000 sxr 700 with 7200 flawless miles on it and a 01 srx with 2600 flawless miles that absolutly rocks, and I just picked up a 02 viper er, surprised to see the differences in the cooling systems, plan on putting a srx cooler in the rear and have heard that 02 vipers had some issues it runs excellent as far as i can tell so far, any tips specific to this machine i need to know about? it has 1200 miles thanks, and look forward to any advice besides hang on tight, just curious if it rips the shoulders like the srx or not thanks

Triple pipe it and it will rip your shoulders like Big Blue! Seriously though, the Vipers are quick stock, but will not hang with the SRX unless you do triples. Long travel suspension and chassis rigidity is where the Viper shines over the SRX IMO. I prefer the looks too, but that's just my taste. I'm slightly biased!
As far as issues you've touched on the first. Some had cooling problems and the rear exchanger is a good addition. It found its way as standard equipment in the 04's if that is any indicator. The wire harness under the engine can rub through and cause electrical shorts so check that out real good. Fuel pumps would ice up on the early ones, but I can't imagine any that haven't been updated by now. The classic W arm is known for cracking, but you probably know about that one. Beyond that I can't recall any other major things. Memory tells me that the exhaust y pipes crack on some of them. Shock calibrations were a complaint but not really an issue. Love hate kinda thing and the whole update deal is well know by now. Few other updates like the hood/belly side fitment mod. Little stuff, but all in all as reliable as any other Yammy and great fuel/oil economy for a 2S. Someone else will come along and pick up on what I forgot!
Also check out the power valves if you haven't done so and make sure they are clean, properly adjusted and not pulled through.
Beyond all of that my best tip is add a 2" bar riser. You'll thank me for sure!

Yes, 2" is not a problem. Some have pulled off 3", but I can tell you it never would have worked on mine without cables and wire extensions.
Your arms and shoulders will love the difference in ergonomics the riser makes.

All good advice. The rear HX is a must IMO. Not sure if yam still has them for $99, check a dealer. I resolved the side panel issue by installing Doo snoX hood latches at that point, work well if you dont mind the look. Keep c-case oil changed regularly, check the bottom brg regularly, if you put a new one in the seal on the brg has to face inside the case ( I lunched c-case once) , clean carbs as well. If an idle circuit gets plugged you'll eat a cylinder (ask me how I know!) The best things I've done are 136" upgrade and usi px 301 skiis. It's the viper they should have built, IMO. 16K km's on mine and love it. I think an airwave skid is next though.SRX RIDER said:Triple pipe it and it will rip your shoulders like Big Blue!
