do by hand,,oil the shaft down with a coat of oil(it will help build pressure)..i use a very soft rubber handled hammer to hold the clutch still..good luck

Yes by hand does work also you just have to hold the clutch harder to keep
it from spining on ya.

100% go with the impact gun. 20x faster, easier. Some people used to beleive that it was hard on the crank bearings... i've never had such a problem. You can do it by hand if you like to do things the hard way lol.

Unless the clutch has never been off an impact shouldn't be needed. If you have a heat gun use it at the bottom of the sheave, lube the puller threads, squirt a shot of oil in the clutch hole, hold the clutch either with the proper tool or a wooden shaft through the spider and tighten the puller in with force. If the clutch doesn't pop off don't be afraid to give the puller end a straight hit to help pop it off. Use common sense with the pressures. If your not sure it is better to get some hands on advice then replace the spider because you torqued it to much. I've never had any problems using the impact but it is not recommened. Any time the impact came out there was rust on the taper. It doesn't hurt to check the runout and crank phase when the clutch is off, I do mine every year. When you install the clutch make sure the pto end and clutch taper are clean, use fine emery if needed. Wipe both and don't touch either with your fingers, this can cause rust. Replace the clutch and torque the clutch bolt.

Impact starter!!!!!!
I used impact in the beginning, but now I have a clutch holder tool and use a long rachet and it is not a problem at all.
If you have a good impact though, you can put it on the clutch bolt..turn the key and start the engine that way.Just pull it away when she fires up...LOL.You don't need electric start....impact it man.(Chuckle

puller
i bought one from my dealer 1 time for 15$ & about 4-5 of use the end bent(it was very thin) it was bent so bad that i kept tighting it up thinking it was just on there pretty tight.come to find out after i did get it off.i had to screw it in so far it actually stripped the treads on the shaft (not good).thankfully i was able to just use the tap & die set to re tread it.....the morall of this story is make sure you buy the good puller..it cost me about $50 if i recall & have used it numerous times.that is one thing dont to be stingy on.my experience & 2 cents.
