Hey guy`s just finished painting my exhaust, when putting everyting back together starting with the manifold installed a new manifold gasket (50 bucks) canadian and then the exhaust pipe and muffler started tha sled and let her warm up gave her a couple of squezzes and low and behold the was a oil leak shut her down and did a close inspection and found that the oil was comming from the power valves housing, the previous owner said that he cleaned and set the valves a few times a year my question is should he have replaced any gaskets when cleaning power valves,i just finished cleaning up under the hood and dont want this sled to be spitting out oil every time i go for a run any advice would be great. :

Ehh, you will get mixed reviews on replacing the gaskets every time you clean the valves. I personally have changed the p-valve gaskets one time after 5,000 miles and about 15-20 power valve cleanings. A few things you can check are to make sure the valves are in fact clean and not sticking and sliding freely. One more thing to look at is to make sure the little release port hole on the power valve housing is facing up.

A friend of mine told me that the power valves on the vipers and srx`s tend to spit oil after a day of running can you tell me if there is any truth to this ,i just finished cleaning under the hood spend a good day and a half would really suck to have to clean under under the hood after each run.
If they are spiting oil/fluids, then there is something else going on...I have 1700km's on my viper & clean the pvs out at the beginning of each season & again just before a week long trip...haven't put on a new pvs housing gasket or a seal in a cable block...Most of it's km's with ipone oil...If it's oil, than you need to clean them valves up, if it's thin with a tint of fuel smell, than you have a stuck needle/float open and its running into the cylinders & at start up it blows past the oil ring seal at the cable housing & weeps out the vent hole, voila the mess...

I disagree with this statement; One more thing to look at is to make sure the little release port hole on the power valve housing is facing up.
The weep hole goes down, that way when you flood the engine it spits the fluid down & out of the way, not up into the air going through the vent screens on the hood, in which it spreads all over everything, like clutches...Oouch!!!!also good thing it faces down, 'cause when river running/crossing...water does not work it's way in...notches up & hole down...cheers

I just checked the service manual to clarify this. The projection(bump) on boththousings face upward. Thus making the hole face down. Maxdlx
ps I always put a very thin coat of hi temp rtv on the surfaces before reassembly, very thin.

Sorry to intrude progold, but i'm new with power valves. What little bump are you guys talking about, the release port hole. I dont see any different on my vlalves. Both side seem to be flat on my PV housing.
make sure the little o ring are good too :-))
