OK Guys.
Kinda new here, but I have a dumb question. I want to put a 1.25 inch track on my SRX with studs, but I understand I should put on 8 tooth drivers. Where do I get them? All the parts pics I look at show 9 tooth drivers. Any help is appreciated.

As far as I know, you can use your stock 9 tooth drivers....you only need 8 tooth for anything over 1.5 inches
P.S. I've always been told that there's no such thing as stupid questions

I understand that I don't have to change them out, but there seems to be some differences of opinion over whether it should be done. I don't really feel like cutting a ride short for repairs this season, so I'd rather err on the safe side, even if it means spending a little more. And I also understand that there are no stupid questions, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots.

I'm real sure you can't run 1.25" track + studs with 9T drivers. I just installed a 1" Hacksaw & 1.175 studs. That was close. It did hit the protectors barely. I don't think you'll safely have the room. Search this forum for more info tho.
If you want 8T, I would contact Rich.

Thanks guys. Next question is what gearing do I need to correct the ratio. I checked out the gearing chart on the tech pages and got my stock gearing at 23/38. According to my calculations, I can use either 24/35 combo or a 23/34 combo to change to a 8T driver. Would I need a different chain for either of these? Or am I totally off my rocker with my calculations? I also have to keep in mind that I'm changing to a long travel suspension, and I've been hearing that I'll lose some top end with that. Is that right? Again, all help is appreciated.

I think 9T to 8T drivers changes you ratio by appoximately 0.125:1 at that gear size. Your stock gearing is at 1.65:1 - The difference would be 1.525:1 - If you use a 23/35 gear combo, it would put you in the ball park at an end ratio of 1.647:1 I would keep checking around, maybe someone can confirm this?

20/40 9 tooth 2.00
?? 2.00 x 13% = 2.26???????????
or am i confused?
stock SRX 23/38 9 tooth = 1.65
8 tooth drivers ???
20/40 8 tooth 2.25
20/40 9 tooth 2.00
?? 2.00 x 13% = 2.26???????????

You are right, it is actually 12.5% just done by the ratio of 9/8 = 1.125 or 12.5%. So stock gearing with 9 tooth drivers of 1.65 would be equal to 1.467 gearing ratio with 8 tooth drivers.

To get your ratio back to stock (1.65) you will need 24/35 gearing with eight tooth drivers. Heres the calculator for speed.

Read the first post where it say - click here -.
I think the least expensive gear and chain set can be found at Hi-performance Engineering. Get the Catalog lot of good stuff.

So I read that chart, does it mean that I can get away with using my 70 link chain without having to buy a 68 link? Am I reading that right? Just want to make sure cuz I'm about to run out of budget here soon.
