Last year I bought a used 2001 SRX and a 2000 SXR. I have been using yamalube in both but am wondering if it's worth changing over and too what??? I see I can get amsoil products nearby. Is it really worth the change in used sleds??? The SRX now has 4700 miles and the sxr 2200. We love the machines and amsoil is about the same cost as the yamalube so would it be worth it and what amsoil to use??? All there 2-stroke I have seen says you can use it in sleds.

I switched over to Spectro Syn-Sno, which is a full synthetic oil. Seem to do a great job in keeping the power-vavles a little cleaner. It does not stink too bad either. Oh yeah, and it is blue, so it matched the sled! hahaha
cant go wrong with Amsoil though.

You becha it is, a fully synthetic oil like Amsoil, Klotz, etc. WILL reduce
friction and wear drastically in you motor, and it will pump(flow) better too,
i would switch from away from yamasluge in a heart beat if you
can get Amsoil, i started using Amsoil's Interceptor a year or two ago
and very pleased with it i use it in every thing all my sleds P/V's or not,
by all means use the Amsoil!!!!!!
i do see you have 4,700 miles on your srx i would put new rings in that
thing now!!! before you ride it this season, your over do.

My experience, not what I have read or heard, is that most todays oils work well and lubricate your sled good. The difference I see is that the semi synthetic and full synthetic give you much less carbon buildup in exhaustports and exhaustsystem. And this is horsepower, it all depends of how you use it If you are a touring rider a semisynthetic oil will give you a better oil and it will cost you a little extra money. If you is a full throttle driver go for full synthetic oil to get the extra protection. My opinion is not science, Only my own experience, I´ve also read in this forum that your riding style changes the way you get carbon buildup, I have read about someone that have clean ports because he drive hard (exhaust ports move alot) and his girlfriend/wife had dirty ports because she drives soft using the same oil. I don´t now about this but it seems it`s how you use your sled, you have to use a good oil and cleen your exhaust ports. I think a semisynthetic oil will give you most value for your money, myself use shell fullsynthetic snowmobile oil because I´m a mechanic for a snowcross racer and can buy it very cheap. I don´t now if it is better or worse than any other oil but it works. If you use a known brand I think you will have no problems.

125lbs compression in each cylinder, why would I rebuild???? I have known people to get 8k out of an SRX without rings. My SRX is a very strong runner in my opinion so I think rebuilding it on a hunch wouldn't be smart. If I pulled her apart I'd think I want to put in pistons too, would you???

I can hardly justify re-ringing when it runs sooo well!!! When I clean out my valves and carbs I see the inside of the engine looks great....even has a lot of crosshatching left on it in the cylinders!!!! I'm just wondering to go with Amsoil????? and which one???

I hate to tell ya this but I really don't care that much about the sxr.(wifes) I have a bunch of yamalube to use up so I'll throw it in that and some castrol snowmobile oil, which looks and smells the same...odd. I'll try the amsoil in the SRX. I have no clue how this compares with the yamalube as that has been good to me. I am crazy about maintenance so that always helps.

2001 SRX little over 8k miles, I just tore it down this summer and cylinders are still perfect. My powervalves never have gotten stuck in the cylinder.
We had a 98 SX 700 modded and that sled had almost 9k miles and the cylinders still have cross hatching like new.
Yamalube 2-S baby I've run it since the machine was new and im going to keep running it!
If you run amsoil dont sit to long without moving LOL I'd rather sniff my dogs farts than ride behind a sled burning that.

Boy i can see you need to do a search on rings vs. mileage and talk to Don(Mrviper)davessrx said:125lbs compression in each cylinder, why would I rebuild???? re-ringing IS NOT a rebuild it's basic maintenance on a 2-stroke motor
a compression test tells little about a motor's health.
and yes if the pistons are under spec they need replacing.

Don't forget, if you do long distance riding or trips that stop at different hotels each night you may want to stay with an oem brand oil or you will need to bring extra oil with you. Most trail stops or gas stations will only carry standard oem brands. Mixing diferent types of oil can be disasterous. I haven't seen it in a while, but I have seen oil gelled up in injector tanks cause of different oils mixed together.

Amsoil is readily available in this region, even in the boonys in the up.Another one thats getting easy to find around here is blue marble, its not quite as prevalent as the oem oil or amsoil, but its gaining in popularity.Maybe this is'nt the case in other regions , but it sure is here.
