It's been awhile since I've seen one but If I remember right the 1980 SS440 (1st year red one) had a different track than the EX440's, SRX440's, 81and up SS440's and Phazers. Again I could be wrong but I think it was a 3 1/4 pitch track with an odd lenght. It does carry a different part # than the rest and it is also a different part # than the ET340 which was also a 3 1/4 pitch track.

Measure the track you have if it is a 2.5" pitch (center to center on the drive lugs) and has 46 windows it will fit your Exciter. If it is a 3 1/4 pitch track it won't fit and you will be better off getting the right track.

Good Luck, opsled

it has 35 windows, i was under the assumption they were a 166" track with 35 windows instead of 45, the track is like new, and already has a hooker setup on it, wich would save a lot of time and money, thought i would change out the drivers on my driveshaft, and be good to go, i will measure the center to center tonight and let you know, Thanks for the help guys, Adam

3 1/4 pitch and 35 windows is a 114" track. You might?? be able to make it work if you can put the 80 SS drivers on the Exciter drive shaft (again might). Many Enticers also used a 3.25 pitch track but their drive shaft was square not hex so their drivers won't work. You would be best off to find a good used 116 track with the right 2.5 pitch and be done with it. They can be found and you will go through a lot more work trying to make that one work than it's worth.

Good Luck, opsled

15X116 2.5 pitch tracks can be found on 76-81 Exciters, 78-80 SRX 440s, 81-85 SS440s, 84-89 Phazers and the Kawasaki Drifter.

The '80 SS's were recalled and had the tracks replaced because they were so stiff and heavy that they didn't have enough power for them.
