whats good compression on a 98 700 srx triple i pull 119-120 on all 3... it runs great and sounds great.... any help would be great

Someone else can jump in but i think with shaved heads your on the low side.

did you test it @ operating temp throttle open with 5-6 good hard pulls?

man i love this site .... lol lol if i have a q someone has some anwsers.... i feal like this site is live tech support for yammies ( the elite might i add ) lol thanks well ill do some check later today and let you know..... is the op temp very important because the pipes are taken off for paint and i'm waiting for gaskets

well maybe your guage is wrong .. depends if the engine is ported but with shaved heads its seem low ...

ya does seem low i am runnin a stock 700 and its pumping 120 right across with 13,000 kms.....with the shaved heads should see a bit more

Rememeber, not all compression guages will read the same!! Especially those universal ones that dont use the long 14mm thread adaptor, they will show lower because your adding volume with no spark plug in the cylinder and the quailty of the guage has the biggest differance. I wouldnt worry as much about the actual number vs if they all are the same or not. A compression test is good to see if the engines in good shape(blown up or smeared rings) but it does not tell you the amount of leak down the rings let by if they are worn. A worn engine can build pressure rapidly but wont hold on to it very long.

Yup a L/D test tells a better story, when i brought the X home that's one
of the first things i did, showed only 3% loss @ 100psi on the worse hole,
not bad for 3,000 miles...

but she's still getting rings when it hit's 4,000 no matter what the L/D
shows then..

You guys have me convinced. Now that I know how easy it is to rering. Mine will probably be every other season now that I have the knowledge that I learned here.

Good for you for wanting to do things right. ;)!

ok i'm back from the shop and i got all three where the same and they where at 130-132.... so it sounds like im in ok shape right?.?.?.?.?.?.?

well you guys here have me convinced to rebuild my srx the rings and pistons were never touched since new now over 13,000kms so i think im gonna pull her apart and do pistons and rings after hearing all this

Yup it's time, you'll see that she'll run stronger then ever then.
