i am replacing the w-arm on my 98 msrx.....do i have to pull the whole skid or is it easy to do it in the machine???? i can raise the back of the sled 5 feet or so off the ground.....anybody done this??

pull the skid. not worth the hassle of attempting it. could possibly be done but IMO it would be alot more fustrating then the time savings are worth.

Do it,unless the rest of the skid is in bad shape.

Yup that is the way I did it on my SXR a few weeks back, not that it needed replacing.I took the shock out to change the bushings,so decided to keep going and remove the arm to.That way I inspected it closely and did not find any cracks on the warm with nearly 10,000 km's on it.Changed bushings on the lower mount brackets that the arm attaches to.My uppers were good.I also put in grease fittings on the mounting brackets to get grease to them bushings.Changed my shock bushings with needle bearing bushings.Did notice the shaft going thru the upper part of the w-arm had a little uneven wear so replaced it with a spare one I had from another skid.

are the shafts usally worn.....just debating whether to order one since i jsut placed an order with port yamaha and it would be no problem for them to throw it in....

Then i'd need a new one...all mine are new. :)

w arm

Before you put it back in take the new W arm and have it reinforced or it is a time bomb and will break again. Someone on this forum did mine and it's now bullet proof.

ya you guys arent kidding about finding stuff wrong in there.....removed the skid tonight and found front shock bushings pounded out after 500 kms of new bushings....found lower shock mount bent into a banana....no bushings at all left in top w-arm shaft worn lots hadly any bushing left in lower w-arm mount....front tips of rails bent in about 2 inches each bent right at lower shock mount can't figure out why this would happen....2 cracks on both rails where the lower shock mount bolts go the crack if from the top of the rail to the bolt hole. can i get this welded???...found all the transfer rod bushings worn....ordered bearings for the front shock...new bushings to replace the rest of the worn out ones and follow bethevipers mods to beef up the w-arm and install grease zerks in the rest...

well most of the bushings have been replaced...i have a new w arm and shaft and bushings now...so gonna take the skid to a machine shop and see what they can do...

well the cracks arent too bad gonna get those welded the rail tips straightend and im gonna do the bethviper mod to add another bracket on the other side of the crack...figure steel with 3 bolts across the crack will hold better then 2 on the crack....get a new shock mount and see how long it goes for....thanks for all your input and help guys this site is awesome
