Has anyone tried or had a friend that used hauck twin pipes on a 1998 v-max 600? My brother wants to put hauck twin pipes on w/the hauck clutch kit, hauck's thin head gasket, reeds, and reed spacers. Has anyone used any of these products on their v-max's? Anyone know if this stuff is worth getting? Any info greatly appreciated. He wants to know a few things before he throws down the cash on these parts.

Well I haven't used the Hauck parts on a 600 twin, BUT I've got Hauck triple pipes, reed spacers, thin head gaskets, clutch kit and transfer rods on my 2001 SX-R 700 for 4000 miles now and never had a problem with anything, and the performance gains were UNREAL. Hauck makes good stuff, I;m sure you won't be disappointed

They claim you shouldn't put pipes on that motor. My friend wanted to but we researched it extensively and he decided against it. The thin head gasket and the reed spacers are definitely a good idea.
Had a ton of problems piping my old v-max 500 twin. They are much more reliable stock!!!
Truly a tuning nightmare. My yammie dealer even told me not to. I ended up putting it back to stock and trading it for a waverunner

Are we talking about the same sleds? You were talking about piping a 500 while, I'm talking about piping a 600. Or still a bad idea to pipe the 600?

my 600 is twin piped. im getting the pipes dialed in and it runs fine.

Wasn't another issue with piping a twin that they actually make less power than stock? I'm pretty sure that's what I kept reading when we looked into piping my friends 97 XTC600. But it seems like I also read that if you were going to do it there was only one set to use and I think it was the GYT pipes. I could be wrong though. It's been almost 3 years now since I looked into any of that.

I remember it takes long time(and lots of pistons) to get 'er dialed in fully.

Same concept.
Yammi twins do not like pipes unless they came from the factory with them and the engineers disigned it to run like that.
There are ALOT more companies that make pipes for tripples because they make good HP numbers and are reliable.

the Yami 600 twin is practically the same as the 500 twin , minus the added displacement.
And I have heard that yami twins do not take twin pipes that well, compared to other brands that take twin pipes quite easily, and make a great deal more power with those twin pipes.
Also, from everything I have read, notching your reed stoppers does the same as buying reed spacers, but saves you a few dollars.

they do not take well if you cant fine tune.
its all depends on how determined you are.
so far mine is going well. i should be ready by the winter.
its a big pain though. i have enough jets to last me a life time.

Well maybe my brother shouldn't start playing with dad's old v-max? Seems like more people are saying its a bad idea than good.
Tell your brother to buy a clutch kit and a very good track. Do the thin head gasket mod. I think on those you take 3 layers out. With all that done he will forget all about piping the sled. Will really wake it up.

^^ plus you'll keep yamaha's reliability

My friend sent his cylinders and pistons into Hauck and had them check them out. He put new rings and the updated pistons in it and did the thin head gasket (he bought the thin one for it) and it definitely made a big difference. He also did the clutch using Turks recommendations (changed the weights and a new helix) and he couldn't be happier now.

What did your friend have to have hauck check out on the cylinders/pistons? Was there some scoring? What is this updated piston talk? I don't know anything about this. The clutch tuning per turk's specs, is this setup the one that's in the technical section? Do you know your buddies exact clutch setup now...weights, helix, spring? Right now our dad's sled has a ripsaw track on it....so the good track thing is taken care of. Would he (my bro) be better off buying a hauck clutch kit, or setting it up per turks setup? Thanks guys for all this great info coming in!

He can also have some port work done. The head gasket mod and porting will gain him the same if not more HP than some pipes. Plus you will keep the stock reliability.
