Hi Guys last night i took my carbs off to ajust the jetting. I removed the pilot jets and installed new ones 42.5, and set my fuel screws to 1.5 turns out and now i need to place both shims under the clip on the needle. I have never opened a srx carb this far, do i need to get at the needles from the top of the carbs? if i do where do i start? do i remove the idle screw first and then the bar thats goes through all 3 carbs? and how do i remove it?. Is there an easy way. Any help would be much appreiated.

do not try to disassemble the rack. lot easier to just....
pull the carb tops off, hold the throttle open with a zip tie, remove the allens at the top of the slide, remove the carb slide top pivot from the accelerator linkage, (slides off) remove needles (slowly, making sure to find two clear thin plastic washer/spacers) make adjustment and reinstall in reverse.
sometimes those washers stick to the bottom of the pivot or top of the slide, look for them go slow and be pacient. do one at a time, you may have to remove the zip tie to clear the arms for removal or reinstall to get things to line up.
the part that goes into the top of the slide (has the allen screws) only goes in the slide one way. hard to mess it up unless you drop a screw, lose a washer or make the wrong clip adjustment. ski

Right on ski.
Did this last night on my carbs too. A small pair of needle nose makes it fairly easy.

What ski said. Be sure the clip is all the way on. There are 2 versions of the C-clip and one of them is more difficult to install properly. I found that holding the clip with the side of the needle nose pliers instead of the tip of the pliers works better. Hope this helps. BTW, I use a hemostat with a curved tip (available at most tool stores) to reach down and get the needle. Makes life easier.

Thanks Ski and iahacker. OK i understand the part about using a zip tie to hold the throttle wide open, But i don't think i have allens they are screws. "remove the carb slide top pivot from the accelerator linkage, (slides off)" Is the carb slide the long bar that goes through all 3 carbs?

trevor, the allen screws are 2.5mm and are down inside the slides, you open the throttle and youll see them down inside the slides, you need a ball nosed allen wrench to take them out then those little parts come off the shaft.

what i use to get the needles out is the yamaha dirt bikes come with a tool kit and the have a needle removal tool. it is a long thin wire with a rubber hose tight enough to grab the top of the needle and pull it out of the slide. i am sure you can fab one up or use the needle nose trick. ski
