hey guys..
I was wondering if anyone here has any experience (good or bad) with the Camoplast Ice Ripper (pre studded) tracks ? I was thinking of putting one on my 04 viper. I have the original ripsaw 1 1/4 on the sled now, but I want to stud it so I have to go to a 1" lug. due to clearance issues. So I was thinking of buying a pre studded track but I was hoping to get some feedback from the pro's on here first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i've never ran one but my buddy has, helps a lot with braking, moreso then acceleration so if your just looking for a bit better performance then they'd be alright, i dont think you could compare them to studding a track though, studs are much more aggressive IMO

Thanks for the reply. I am undecided if I want to buy a new 1" track and stud it or just buy the all in one package (ice ripper etc.) from what I have read on here and a few other places. ppl seem to have the same opinion as you about the pre studded tracks. So I think I will just spend a little more and buy a track and stud it. Now does anyone have any suggestions on what type of track and studs I should use ? also what would be the best stud pattern to go with I'd like to keep the pattern down the middle, and I mostly just ride groomed trails and lakes... so do you think 96 would be enough down the middle ? or maybe more ? Sorry to ask so many questions but I know you guys all know your stuff so I thought I would get some input from the pro's. Again the sled is a 2004 viper ER I need opinions on what track to use, what studs are best and what stud pattern..
thanks guys

You have several options in your situation. First of all, are you running the ripsaw right now with the front heat exchangers still in or not?

yes I have the original track and front exchangers still in it,and the track is mint the sled only has 600 km's on basically brand new.I bought the sled late last yr and never got a chance to drive it. So I want to get it ready for this yr. I can keep the ripsaw thats on it, and stud it but then I have to change the drives and re gear & clutch etc... right ? sounds like a pain in the A*%
I thought I would just sell the ripsaw and buy a 1" track and stud it. or go the pre studded route. But The more I read up on the pre studded tracks makes me think that I should just go with the new track and stud it myself. I was just wondering what you guys would do? so lets hear your opinions. I appreciate all the help guys

I believe you should be able to stud that original track without having to go to smaller drivers IF your heat exchange protectors are infact still in. The problem most people face with studding these track and putting them in there sleds is getting the 1.25" lug to not hit the front heat exchange protector and that is why they need the smaller drivers. It is due to the track not fitting in there, not the studs. Correct me if I am wrong but you should be able to just stud it if the track has all of the protectors in place and there is no rubbing anywhere.

A 1.25 ice ripper will fit in a pro action chassis without protectors - just keep an eye on your track tension. Buddy of mine has about 4000 miles on that set up and likes it. Lighter than studs too.

I'm not sure about this. from what I read online, and from what others have told me is that if I plan on studding the 1.25 ripsaw I would have to change the drivers, and gearing. I want to avoid doing all this if possible. Apparently once the ripsaw is studded the studs will hit the exchangers/ protectors. Anyone else have any experience with this ?

Like I said, I could be wrong but I believe the main reason why most people are unable to install a studded ripsaw 1.25 in there sled is because the track itself will hit the protectors so they would be forced to run it without the protectors which is not an option. In your case, you are lucky enough that you got a Ripsaw to fit in there with the protectors already in there. In this case, you should be able to stud it safely because the protectors will only allow the track to get so close to the heat exchange protector and there for not allowing your studs to reach the heat exchange protector.

I see what you are saying now. I'll check and make sure if the protectors are there or not, like I said I got the sled late last season, so I didn't get a chance to ride or tinker much with it at all. Thanks for the tips I appreciate it. If anyone else has any input about tracks I'd love to hear it

if you have a good track, and its a ripsaw, isntall guards, cut your lugs to clear them, shave your track down to 1 in and install 1.175 studs. 168 outside patern. you will love it and it will work alot better than a ice ripper.
if youre looking for the same results that studs will provide you will be disapointed.

Ok thanks guys for the help. I am use to running studded tracks, so when you say I will be disapointed. that sums it up pretty good. I think I will try to use the ripsaw thats in it and shave the lugs down. Thanks again to everyone for all the help. This place is by far the most informative & friendly site out there end of story Happy Sledin guys !
