this post follow my other post

I don't want to wait almots 3 weeks before my friend could take my sled into his garage to work my sled. I just can't wait

I want to open the cylinder (mag side) and look to it and check for any damage.. And also, i would like to bring the carbs to my dealer for a check-up

SO, can you tell me if i can do it with standard tools?? I need to do the work outside...

I think that i have to remove the coolant?? right?

well if someone could write me some easy step by step guide.. it would be great

what kind of sled we talking here??

Can you put your sled and year of it in your avatar so we know what you
have..

yes coolant needs to be drained out first thing

<-------- put it in your avatar over here, so you don't have to wright it all the time. :)

anyway it's a easy removel, going to post a pic or two for ya to help, hang
on.....

If you just need to take the head off...

1-Drain coolant out so you don't have a mess, the drain bolt for that
is in the motor, lower case, HERE, i think 10mm.

2-remove the coolant hose off the coolant rail, COOLANT RAIL

3- Remove the 6 bolts that hold the head on(12 or 13mm, etc.)

just a fast run down there's other little things that will need moved but you
get the idea, just look at it you'll see.

carbs there will be a coolant line/hose from the rail to the left side carb
that needs to come off then your throttle cable cable,TORS wires, unloosen the carb boots then pull out, air box will need to be remover too.

you may want to wait for your friend if your unsure, dunno

Why do you suspect damage on the mag side cylinder?

I would really suggest that you come up with a shop manual some how. My local library had the Clymers Yamaha shop manual that I used in conjnuction with my Yamaha Viper manual to rebuild my motor. The manual will have great exploded views and the torque specs you will need to re-assemble the motor.

If you are looking at top end work, the only special tools you should have are a torque wrench and piston pin puller if needed.

I would pull the lower water pump hose and drain the coolant. I would then suggest you use a shop vac to suck the coolant out of the top hose attached to the water rail. You want to try and prevent getting coolant into the lower engine case if possible.

Other than that, I would suggest you buy a box of zip loc bags so you organize and label the small parts and fasteners you remove.

G.B.

Nope just need to remove the cylinder's 4 bolts, the exhaust, power valve,
just need common tools(metric).

What years does it cover ski?

i dont think it goes up until 2002 because it doesnt mention anything about the dcs system.... however it did include jetting tables, gearing tables and clutching tables to... doesnt say on cd what years it covers... does say it covers both the srx 600, and srx 700.... and it is a yamaha shop manual because its set up exactly like my owners manual except much much more detailed info and breakdowns on every section, complete wiring diagrams and such

lol well im not computer whiz here but ya i think i could do it that way?? lol im not sure though, definately a big file, its in the adobe program and then i just printed it all off and put it in a binder to make it a lot easier to reference from rather then run back and forth to the computer. I think the file is around 26 mb or something like that.
