I recently purchased this sled and have an issue. Any ideas what would be causing a backfire while fluttering the throttle during warm up???
Also, are the carbs on these sleds heated?

Clean the carbs. I bet your pilot jets are plugged.

Well this is the topic of the pre-season...have you cleaned the carbs???
As a rule if she backfires through the intake/airbox its lean & if she backfires through the exhaust its rich
Now this said, worn out rings, pistons, cylinders can all lead it to backfire untill its up to temp & an over rich curcuit, leaking float needle can also lead to backfire...
Again did you get those CARB cleaned this season yet???

Got it...I'll dive into a thorough Carb cleaning...

Check the compression? Ya the carbs are heated. There is a Plastic knob on the coolant rail that comes off the heads. It will be close to your belt cover. It says on and off.

Should the heat be on or off? Why would I need this???
If its darn right freakin cold out, Turn the carb heat on.
If its just a nice sunny weekend cruise about 25 or so, I turn them off.
BTW Who is that guy a few years back that was offering carb coolant valve tools? I bought a few from him but never heard from him again.

My SXR does that every once in a while if I don't warm it up enough before I start to cruise. My carbs are cleaned, premiun fuel in tank, jetted up 1 size bigger, good for -20 F. Once it is warmed up,I just pin it man and she keeps on ticking like the bunny.

My 97 V-max 700 does the same thing too. Did a comp test on it today, it does have over 9300 miles on it, anyways, comp was 135psi in all 3, I was pretty suprised.lol Guess I need to take off the carbs, give them a cleaning too...

I did get the sled used from a local dealer last winter, paid 1000 for it. Don't know if the previous owner rebuilt it or not, no idea. The only thing I see that the previous owner(s) did is some V-Force Delta reeds and spacers. Hard to say if it's ever been apart or not.
