I am new to the sport but would like to get into it. However funds are low so I am looking for something affordable. I have seen several ’02-’04 Vipers in the 2500mi range for about $3k. Is this a good value for a new guy on a budget?

Welcome to the best snowmobile site on the Net! I think you would be hard pressed to find a better used all around sled for the money than the Viper. A Viper will offer great oil and fuel consumption for an older 2 stroke, power enough to run with the big dogs, and handle like they are on rails. Vipers tend to be Yamaha reliable, and if needed, parts are plentiful and reasonably priced. The weakest link with the Viper or any Yamaha of the same vintage is the rear skid or suspension. However, you will find all kinds of modification and upgrade suggestions on this site. Good luck with whatever you decide. G.B.
