Hello, I need some help... I've got a 2000 SRX w/no spark. I parked it last year after ripping down the lake, now she's dead. I had a busy summer w/family, and never checked it, to make a long story short the tarp took a dump so everything got hosed.
Things I checked :
Wiring harness
Main switch
Kill switch
New plugs
New plug boots
Condenser
Regulator
R/W, G/W, pick up coil wires, output voltage = 1.4 V.
Stator - .5 ohms = good
Pick up coil - doesn't read anything, until you measure on high ranges
I believe it's the p. u. coil, but is there anything else I should check first? I know this sounds stupid, but I don't want ot just throw parts at it. So go ahead light me up!
Thanks, John.

That has to be a kick in the nuts.
You said you fot a buch of water all over it? Take it in the garage and let it dry out in a heated garage/barn with the hood open for a day or so.

Compression's good, fuel's good, no spark. Checked thors, it's working properly. It's been in the garage w/heat on for days. The tarp let it get wet over the summer, and it held condesation it under the cover so it was like a green house, evreything stayed wet. I think the pick up coil's shot, but there's no one around here with a spare to test with.
Hate to give the dealer a hundred bucks to say, "Yep your pick coil's shot". I'm thinking of getting a used stator w/pickup coil to try it out.
And yeah it sucks! + today some jerk backs up into my sons car, and smashes his bumper, then takes off. Happy Holidays!!

Wow, this situation is sounding so very familiar.

Hi John, do you have varying voltage coming from the pick up coil wires when you pull over the engine?
if yes, then you would next go to the cdi box and check the same color wires going into the box, do you have the same voltage there when you pull it over? if yes, that means the wiring , pick up coil, is good up to the cdi box.
next step would be to check the output of the cdi box with the meter on the orange wire, does it show increased varying voltage when you pull it over?
to troubleshoot a no spark, you have to start at the source and work your way to the plugs.
BTW_ have you checked to make sure that the magnets on the flywheel are not rusted preventing the pick up coil from reading the flywheel? If it was wet, they rust, have seen this many times over before.

Mr. V, I've checked for voltage from the pick up it's self, and got zero when I pull it over. If I go to the wires leading into it from the main harness, I get 1.5 V.
I can't check anything else for a day, or two because while it's tore apart I couldn't stand to not go thru, and clean/sanblast/repaint under the hood. It was pretty foul under there.
Last night I couldn't get the secondary clutch to open, so I pulled it. When I took it apart the sheave bushing was seized. More fun....
Actually it's probably a good thing this happened now, if it had ran I might have cleaned the carbs, and just a once over! Now I'll be pulling the suspension and all! Oh well...

Corrosion in one of the connectors? Pull all of the connectors apart and spray a dry lubricant like Gumout or brake clean. Then blow out with compressed air. Don't forget the connectors on the cdi. Check the ground wires too.
I've had every conector on it off, and sprayed with electrial conector cleaner. Sanded the flywheel, took the stator off, and scotch brited it. Thought my cheapie meter was telling lies, so I got my neighbor's snap on, and got the same readings!
Started getting really pissed, so I took it as an oppertunity to clean things up, as it was already spread all over the floor! The guy at the hardware loves me because I'm changing all the rusty bolts over to stainless allen heads.
Big fun!!!

Update : Dead pick up coil! At least all the conections are clean, and everything is getting cleaned and painted.
Servicing the clutchs, and suspension are just icing on the cake.
Thanks to all!!

I will be changing the same thing this weekend. Unfortunately MrViper did not reply to my message, so I had to find it out the hard way. But no hard feelings, haha j/k
There seems to be a few failures on these lately from what I'm seeing here. I might have to keep one in stock!
Thanks, Mr. V, I'm glad too. It's like you tell everyone, process of elimination. Going thru all the checks I did find potential future failures in the form of corroded conectors which hopefully saves me from more headaches down the road.
My Christmas vacation would have been dampened, had I had to go out and buy a new sled!
