I just bought a '95 V-max 600 for $600 on e-bay. A friend of mine said that Yamahas are known for not crossing water well. Is this true? All Yamahas or just certain sleds? If so what is the cause and can it be corrected?(i.e. larger track lugs etc.)
Thanks,
New Guy

My SRX and Viper both have had water on the belt issues. The SRX's belt got wet going across a lake with wet spots and was slipping pretty bad. My Viper's belt got wet water skipping across a river, luckily when the sled wouldnt go any farther the water was only about a foot deep.
Im sure you can look the sled over and seal up any obvious spots where the water will get in,like where the tunnel and bellypan come together and hood vents.

Caulk it up!

That's the key. As long as you can keep the belt dry and feed the motor dry air then ANY sled will cross water.

Thanks for all the input. I assumed it was B.S. but I figured it's worth asking silly questions instead of fishing for my sled. I'll plan on pulling the belly pan down and run a bead of caulk around it.

I don't have any problems crossingon my srx. But, like they said, if to belt is wet your screwed!!!!!

my mountain srx would cross water no problem....pull back on the bars and shed stand straight up.....until the belt gets wet....then it came back down good thing it was only a foot or so deep

I've crossed about 250ft of water on a 95 vmax deluxe 500 2 up.
The procation chasis tend to get water on the beldt.Silicone where the shocks mount on top and in a few other spots.Stick a light under the sled in the dark and you can see where to silicone.

I think your V-max will cross water better than the pro action sleds? IMO
make sure your rubbers are good at the ski/strut mount so the tips of the skis dont dive under a wave (dont ask how I know this) and caulk every seam !!!!

Some Yamaha's need tuning in the secondary too I think. My srx is good in water when maintaining speed, but when i slow down a little and try speed up again the flywheel (secondary) will backshift too fast and cause it to stull but have really high rpm.

I have a Yamaha that just loves the water.....I can even troll with it.......oh...you were talking about sleds not boats.....sorry. LOL
