After getting leukemia, I lost the ability to extend my fingers enough to use the thumb throttle. So I want to convert it to a twist throttle. I would love to get back into snowmobiling, but the throttle is stopping me. How can I convert my sled (2001 SX700R) to a twist throttle? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Could you get a brake style ? Instead of thumb just use 2 fingers...That is all I can think of, I wouldn't know how to install a twist one....Somebody might come up with an idea....Nick

its very simple, you just need to use a dirtbike throttle.
I have seen it done several times through the years. You can buy a grip throttle at most mail order shops like Dennis Kirk, Shadetree, JR Graham, etc. that handle bike stuff. I have even seen a throttle off a minibike used. One thing to watch out for is freezing up though, as these throttles are not really designed for cold weather. You will have to disable TORS which is a bit of a safety issue. As long as you are comfortable using the throttle and others don't ride it you should be fine.

A dirt bike style throttle won't work because there is 2 cables going to the stock thumb throttle - one for the carbs and one for the oil injection.
I converted my ATV over to twist and it works fine for me. I don't know how I can convert the sled though.

Thanks for the tips. I ordered one of those throttle gizmos. It may help but I still need a twist throttle setup.

Could you take a universal twin carb throttle and hook one end to the carbs and one to the oil pump. Then hook the single cable to to the twist throttle?

Come to think of it I think polairs uses a single cable hooked to the lever, with a junction that has a cable for the carbs and the oil pump.

Check on some of the Mountian web sites, someone makes them for a sled I just don't know who. A friend of mine has them on all his mountian sleds and he buys it as a kit. If you can't locate it let me know, I'll get the info from him.
