I know this topic has nothing to do with sleds but I've got an auto darkening welding helmet that isn't working properly. It will darken down fine when I strike an arc but when the arc stops it wont lighten back up properly, stays dark until I cover the sensor with my hand and it will lighten up.I'm by no means a welder by trade I just gob stuff together and melt alot of rods LOL but this type of helmet is a great tool for a novice like me.The helmet was working fine up until this summer when I first noticed it acting up and it's not as though I weld every day either so it should in no way be worn out,it's only a couple of years old as it is.It's got a built in rechargeable battery and so is not changeable, which is what I thought might be the problem, and I'm reaching for probable causes for why it's acting this way.If anyone from Canada shops at Princess Auto it's one of their helmets and possibly you've seen this before.Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

hmm, weird.
i have an auto darkening welding helmet myslef, and its been performing awesomely for at least 6-7 years. I do infrequent welding, only when I break something, or get creative and want to either make something I dont want to pay for, or make something better than it was originally.
Fortunately, my helmet has a AA replaceable battery and if it is dead, its no issue to get a new one.
It sounds like your battery is dieing to me as well.
good luck!

if your helmet has a sensitivity adjustment, turn the sensitivity down to low. and if it seems that the batteries are dying, leave it out in the sun with the sensors facing up and it will recharge the batteries. I used to have a helmet like that. i feel a little spoiled now with my miller elite that they buy us at work.

I agree with insaneSXR. Another thing that it could be is if you had a delay adjustment... but it seems unlikely as you said that if you cover the sensors with your hand it'll brighten back up again.
By the way... i've also got a Miller Elite Maple Leaf edition. It's probably the best helmet i've ever used.
