Clean your power valves..? I have an 02 viper that has about 2700 miles on it, never cleaned the valves. Running yamalube for oil, nothing fancy. But what is a good practice? thanks.

if you check the tech section under Engines, I think there is a Power Valve cleaing area and it may say recommended mileage...many people clean them every year or season and some go by mileage (2000 rings a bell)

thanks mr. sled..

hey my family lives on the Eau Plaines. That's in mosinee

I would clean them as soon as you can with that many miles of Yamalube. You might want to run some Ring-Free through it first though as it will help loosen it up some. You can get Ring-Free from your Yamaha dealer.

I waited way to long.. I went to 4000 miles and they were stuck in there really bad.. I know people that clean them every 500 to 1000 miles using the Yamalube.. Mr Sled is the second person to tell me to run the ring free... Suppose to work great and you use it in every tank a little to clean out carbon build up..

how often do you/clean power valves

I think you should take the valve out and clean them before you do any more riding. After you have them cleaned and set up, I would be changing to a different oil like AMSOIL.there is a new amsoil out called interceptor
it has a higher detergent level which helps keep your vales ceaner longer.
Check it out for yourself at wwwamsoil.com.

how often do you/clean power valves

I have seen a viper with a stuck power valve with only 500 kilometers on it using yamalube.I have also been told that if you sick a valve closed on a viper you could run a good chance of blowing up.

I will clean my pwr valves about 2 to 3 times a year (SRX 700) i have never had one stuck or ever close to stuck, i am running Yamalube, but have never heard of Ring Free, is it a Yamaha product? if so i might look at it , because i used to use Klotz which worked great, only had to clean once during season but cost made me switch back to Yamalube.......Reaper

I'm with Reaper.

I clean and adjust mine every 500 miles or so. It doesn't take long and it alleviates having to deal with a tremendous build up of gook if not looked after often enough. I've heard about the cable pull throughs and wanted to avoid that while maintaining a well running machine.

I also use Yamalube. It's never caused me any problems and I've got lots of it since the 'ole SRX doesn't use very much.
