I have an older hand held Garmin gps that I want to mount on my srx. I never use the heated shield plug. Are there any adpaters that plug into that & have a cigarette style receptacle on the other?

If not, I have a small 12v marine grade battery I use to run my portable fish finder. Is it possible to rig something off that if I find a good mounting spot?

Obviously would prefer the plug in deal.

Thanks, Fro.

Do some searches on gps......on here and you will come up with some things to think about... I am going to mount a 12v accessorie plug on mine for my gps. I mounted the gps mount to the gauage pod under my windsheild. I am going to get my power right of the condensor that is next to the headlight. I am not sure how it will go but thats what I am thinking. I have the same single headlight that you have. I was thinking about the battery but I don't want to have something that can bounce around under the hood. But some people put there batteries next to that foot rail on the silencer side.
Hope that this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did my Garmin on my srx. with no battery, Iwent for the 12v heated shield wires, and ran the adapter from there. I took the circuit board out of the LIGHTER plugin thing, and taped the shYt out of it, so it would be water tight. Then just zip-tied it to the handlebar (inside the foam area) and ran the connecter to the throttle side of the handbar.

Obviously, I had Garmin's handlebar mount installed on the throttle side.

The etrex and other models run on 3volts, so you need to keep that circuitry, which steps the power down to 3v. Dont fry your gps by sending 12v at it by accident!!

The only frustration I have is when at idle with lights and grips on, sometimes it shuts off...not getting the full 3v.

Without a battery, can't run a voltage regulator...so thats the best it gets for my sled (aside from running a small battery)
