97 red head motor. Went out for a bit today. Thing runs like a top. Shut it off a couple times and fired right back up again. Stopped at my sister's place for 15 minutes or so, went to leave and sled no starty. Appears to have lost spark.

I did some the simple checks in the driveway - bypassed the kill switch, tether, unplugged key, checked harness plugs, etc...

Any thoughts as to what the deal is? CDI, Stator, something else I'm not thinking of? Help me out here guys. My wife isn't happy when her sled isn't working.

Check the connections on all the little wires that fire the coils. Sometimes they look like they are plugged in, but they really aren't.

To my knowledge there is no fuse as it's not electric start. Checked all the conecters on the coils, cdi, main plugs, etc... The light does not flicker.

I'm thnking stator as inline said. Will they just quit like that? I thought that a guy got the won't start when warm problem as a clue.

Start checking componets out, stator, pickup coil, try a search on that stuff lots here on that...

also check the obvious,, kill button, key switch, etc...

What's interesting here is that you said that the lights won't burn when you pull the rope. The stator has a lighting coil side to it that is seperate to the ignition side. Both of them are plugged into one connector(if I remember correctly). This tells me that the plug at the motor at the recoil area may have an issue. Did you check that connector? Pull it apart and look for an unseated wire in the connector. Also there are small coil wires that are attached to the underside of the cooling hose that comes from the front exchanger to the top of the motor. Did you check those? Yeah, it could be a stator, but I'm not convinced at this time that it is that.

I had a simaler proplem w/ my sx a while bac, seems to be a problem w/ those sx's. anyway Its probably a wire that has grounded out under the motor where the harness lays on the belly pan.. what happens is that they tend to "rub thru" an exposes the bare wire on the pan.....try pulling on the wires abit under the motor to see if spark will appear.. if it does you have a bare wire under there
