So last year, after having numerous close calls 2 years prior, I was set on getting helmet communication systems for my wife and I. Also she seems to drive a little slower so it's nice to know where she's at!!!
1st test....
Nady helmet communicators...price for 2 under $200. After numerous testing and talking with the dealer and the company I finally folded and sent them back. The distance was poor as was the reception. Maybe they work on motorcycles but not on sleds!!!
2nd test....
Bite the bullet and bought collett communicators from collett. $350 a pair with shipping. They are suppose to be the best made and completely hands free. There demo online is nice....notice the 4-stroke yami's....they worked as bad as the Nady's!!! A complete disaster. Finally the owners son told me they have had issues with these units working with SRX's. Great, just Great.
3rd test....
On the way to St Germain we stopped in Green Bay and bought a pair of HJC multi-sports. They were just over $300 as they matched online prices and the salesman guaranteed they'd work. The dealer claims they used them in ATV and snowmobile races. So we try them out and they are PERFECT!!! 3rd time is a charm I guess. They can be set-up hands free or push-to-talk which is best on sleds. So lesson learned if you buy communicators get the HJC's. I talked with numerous groups on our trip and all the people with Collett's hated them and the HJC people had good luck. Now we'll see how long they last!!!!!!

I have some old hjc-90's that still work just fine. The range is about 100 yards, though! We just use them to talk and to warn about situations, etc. For the first couple of years, we all used the PTT buttons, but last year, after getting tired of that wire hanging around, we started experimenting with the voice activation. If you set the sensitivity right, and learn to say a code word to get the VOX working, it works pretty good. You need a bs code word so that the beginning of your transmission doesn't get cut off. Communicators rule.
