anyone ever have a problem with the gauge pod melting on the side ? i have a 04 viper ER (black and silver ) that i had the gauge replaced under warrantty that had melted on the side . then it did it again , dealer said they contacted yamaha and got the answer that it was the sun? i have no electrical problems and everyone says there is not enough voltage up there to do this , any thoughts out there?

i would check you bulbs to see if they are low enough it sounds like the gauge got melted and they replaced it but did they just swap all of your bulbs to the new gauge... thats where i would start.... let me know whats up

what windshield do you have?? I had no problems until I put on a transparent chrome windshield....then guage started to melt...went through 2 guages....checked everything 3 or more times and could not find an electrical problem....painted the inside of my windshield.....no more melted guages

I have the same problem!!! I was going to ask someone about it last year but I thought you'd all think I was crazy...lol and I have the low cobra chrome windy on mine as well

Use Fushion paint on the inside in LIGHT coats. The paint helps coat the inside to stop the magnifying from the sun. Durring the summer make sure you take OFF the chrome winshield so the sun does not bubble it and bake the tac.

These guys are right on the money!!, its the chrome windshields that melt the guage and the gauge pods!! The sunlight is magnified by the chrome on the plastic, kinda like sunlight thru a magnifying lens burning paper and ants when you were a kid!

What does painting the inside of the windsheild do?

I used black paint to block the sun from magnifying....the black on the back side did not chage the look of the chrome (maybe a bit darker). I also used fusion paint (for painting lexan r/c car bodies)

The weird thing about where mine melted was that it was completely concentrated on the upper right-hand side of the guage pod and it seems to be spreading from that area and nowhere else....I'm going to try the paint

Wow, why did I wait so long , this is exactly what happened , right after the chrome windshield , i was thinking just the opposite that the chrome would reflect , but aparently not . thanks.
