how big is the hole through the center of the pilot supposed to be? I can see light through it but cant get a pin through it...not sure if this is dirt or if the hole is just pretty tiny...

Also you don't want to be shoving anything through the opening. They are soft metals and can easily deform if you push something through them, which will change the fuel flow characteristics of the jet. Soak them in some carb cleaner, blow out with compressed air, and make sure you can see a nice unobstructed hole through them.

thanks,

one other thing: the jets and bowls really didnt look very dirty....i found only a small amount of dirt in two of the bowls, and the jets cleaned up really easy... is this enough to screw up my idling? i was expecting to see alot more dirt and am questioning whether or not the jets are the problem....

My problem is i can't keep the sled idling without toggling between no choke and half choke.

Sled ran fine at end of season.

i guess i will find out when i hook it all back together but was just wondering whether or not what i am seeing in the carbs is normal...

If she's not idleing for ya thats in your pilot jets make sure it's clean blow with shop air and hold up to a light, should see light through if there clean..

don't take much dirt to plug a PJ, there tiny tiny holes...

I just cleaned mine out and since I didn't have any carb cleaner or air available when I had them apart I used the wire out of a bread tie to clear them. It bends easy enough to not hurt anything.

just hooked everything back up and she's like new again...phew.

that was my first carb job and overall it really wasnt so bad!!

thanks for the help boys.

now i have to do the carbs on the viper,,its doing the exact same thing. Funny this is the first fall i have ever had any problems,. I guess they were due to be cleaned.
